CAPITAL Photos @ Bystander Fanzine

If you have recently found yourself muttering “Gee, I sure wish I had some new CAPITAL photos to look at,” Bystander Fanzine comes through with the hook-up. The photos were taken by site owner Scott J and come from a show on January 28th at SUNY Albany, in Albany, New York.

SCAR SYMMETRY Writing For Third Album

According to Blabbermouth.net, Sweden’s SCAR SYMMETRY is already hard at work on their third full-length for Nuclear Blast. The band has written about ten songs and plans to head into the studio with another ten ready to go. The band released Pitch Black Progress in May of 2006.

- SCAR SYMMETRY is definitely one of the more underrated Swedish melodic death metal bands, at least in terms of coverage and fan base in the U.S. Part of that may be attributed to the fact that they take really lame promo photos. Exhibit A is below.

DIE HUNNS To Tour For You Rot Me

From the inbox:

Finally off the road with their other bands (Duane Peters – U.S. Bombs, Corey Parks РCharlie Horse, and Zander Schloss РCircle Jerks), DIE HUNNS will hit the road in February for the first time in almost a year in support of, You Rot Me, their unexpected new release that has shaken up any preconceived notions of what this band is all about and turned critics and fans alike on their heads.

Fronted by U.S. Bombs leader and skate legend Duane Peters an former Nashville Pussy bassist Corey Parks sharing vocal duties – Die Hunns new CD, You Rot Me, was produced by Zander Schloss (The Weirdos, The Circle Jerks, Joe Strummer) and Nate Shaw (The Lizzies, The Women, The Skulls). Combining a slew of Rock n Roll, R n B and punk rock influences from the ‘60s and 70’s to present date, Die Hunns have crafted some highly memorable hook-laden songs with alternating female and male lead vocals that have been garnering comparisons to likes of X, New York Dolls, The Clash, The Stooges, and most unexpectedly, The Rolling Stones.

Spotligth On: THE STORM

Pennsylvania’s THE STORM have a sound that fits solidly into two camps of metalcore. To one side is the bruising metallic edge that’s dominated by beatdown breakdowns and titanic guitar chugs. Opposed to that is the band’s flirtations with gang-shouted vocals, dual-shredding guitars, and a mild sense of exploration. Think of it as FULL BLOWN CHAOS meets SKYCAMEFALLING… with an unfortunately thin recording style. The band released their debut full-length on Innerstrength Records in early January and a number of songs the album, titled Relentless can be heard on their myspace page.

I FARM “So My Kids Won’t Have To”

I FARM has slugged away at the world for more than thirteen years now, lashing out at anyone in earshot with a barrage of ultra-fast, snotty punk rock/hardcore jams. So My Kids Won’t Have To, the band’s first full-length was originally released in the mid-90s and was out of print for a number of years [...]

LOVE ME DESTROYER Stream at Absolutepunk.net

Colorado’s LOVE ME DESTROYER have their second full-length available for streaming on Absolutepunk.net. The disc is titled The Things Around Us Burn and is available now from Suburban Home Records. If you enjoy aggressive, rough-around-the-edges melodic punk rock (who doesn’t?!?), you’ll eat this up. Be sure to listen to the song “Not if You Were the Last Sinner on Earth.

Short Bits… and Bits and Bits and Bits

1. COMEBACK KID has posted the song “Broadcasting” from the band’s upcoming full-length with the set name. At any moment now, Victory Records will proclaim it to be the best hardcore record of 2007, 2008, and most likely 2009. Check out the rockin’ song at the band’s myspace page.

2. RUINER has finished recording their debut full-length for 1917 Records. The band was in the studio with Jim Siegel for a couple of weeks and the disc goes for mastering next week. A release date is expected close to the summer and the band has announced some tour dates in March with SINKING SHIPS.

3. Sacramento’s tech-metal group WITH PASSION will release their full-length What We See When We Shut Our Eyes in May of this year (in the US – a UK release will be in March). I got my hands on a copy of this last week and it should easily please any fan of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. A number of new songs can be heard here including the guitar-noodleriffic “Pale Horse’s Ride.”

4. Have you ever mistaken someone’s hair for a hat? I think the cold weather of late has me imagining things in the morning.

5. If you can stomach visiting MTVU.com for more than 10 seconds (and even then, that’s an accomplishment), you can head there to watch the brand new video for “Pistol,” from DUSTIN KENSRUE’s disc Please Come Home. I love the video (the harmonica neck holder is very classy), but I’m not so keen on all of the hoops you have to jump through to just watch the damn thing on MTVU, particularly the part where the site still rejects a Firefox browser. Ugh.

6. Will MAXEEN’s Hello Echo ever hit stores?

7. Issue Oriented Podcast Vol. 18 is up now. This one features interviews with Joanna Angel of Burningangel.com and the illustrious Dan Yemin. Issue Oriented remains one of the best punk/hardcore scene focused podcasts around – please give it a listen!
