I FARM “So My Kids Won’t Have To”

I FARM has slugged away at the world for more than thirteen years now, lashing out at anyone in earshot with a barrage of ultra-fast, snotty punk rock/hardcore jams. So My Kids Won’t Have To, the band’s first full-length was originally released in the mid-90s and was out of print for a number of years until Blackout/Creep remastered it and gave it all new artwork late in 2005. While I FARM has evolved extensively in the years since this release (and have a brand new disc titled IV on Go-Kart Records), there’s something about the rawness and totally in-your-face attitude of So My Kids Won’t Have To that makes it incredibly hard cast aside. Taking the political and social bite of a band like PROPAGANDHI and mixing it with the jagged-edge assault of former east coast mainstays, PLOW UNITED, plus a heaping dose of early NOFX, So I Want Have To deftly negotiates traces of melody (particularly in the screamin’ guitar leads) with an underbelly of viciousness that hardly subsides. I’ve always thought that the quintessential I FARM song, “Young Republican” lies on this release, and if you like what you hear (linked below), then this band’s entire discography is worth checking out. I FARM has managed to cut out a unique, outspoken, DIY-inspired path for years and years now, and while the band is still cranking out new material (as a three piece), the brash hunger and utter contempt that strokes So My Kids Won’t Have To sits in a realm of its own. mp3: “Young Republican”
