LAYMEN TERMS “3 Weeks In EP”

This limited edition EP is pretty much a promotional item for LAYMEN TERM’s upcoming full-length for Suburban Home. The title track, a six minute long opus of sorts is a declaration of change for the band, moving them far and wide from their previous highly-structured, rigid post-hardcore sound, and into the grander, more experimental realm [...]

MADCAP “Under Suspicion”

MADCAP must have gotten lost in a giant cocoon or something last year, because they’ve newly emerged as a beautiful butterfly on “Under Suspicion.” That is quite possibly the worst introduction sentence to a review that I have ever written. After two discs for Side One Dummy, MADCAP has made the move to the multi-faceted [...]

Cali Pop Punk Done Tijuana Style

Our friend Lalo from www.punkinternational.com pointed us in the direction of DELUX recently, a four piece pop punk act out of Tijuana with a sound that is as catchy as the rash I’ve got in an unmentionable place. Give them a listen right here. Whether you’re fluent in Spanish or not, you can still appreciate the catchy hooks these guys write. Their self titled 2004 release was a top 10 album of the year by the aforementioned punkinternational.

ARMSBENDBACK apparent break up, CENTURY formed

Lambgoat is reporting that former Armsbendback guitarist, Carson Slovak has formed a new hardcore/metal band called Century. The new band has posted some tracks and expects to release a debut EP in early-2005.

Finally, the source closes by saying that “”…as for ArmsBendBack, all indications are that they’ve broken up.”" The band released their only full length, Waiting Room in 2003 via Trustkill.

“”The Waiting Room”" may have picked up a few great reviews for ARMSBENDBACK, but I thought the band underachieved. The talent was there, but there was nothing redeeming enough to come back to the disc for a 3rd or 4th listen. I wish I could have seen them blossom a bit more instead of breaking up after one disc. While it’s disappointing to see them disband, the material CENTURY has posted on their purevolume site seems promising and much, much heavier.

MeWithoutYou Without Bassist

MeWithoutYou has split with bassist Daniel Steven Pishock. Pishock issued a statement on the band’s website:

“”I regret to inform all of you that I, Daniel Steven Pishock, am leaving the band ‚ÄúmewithoutYou‚Äù as of…….well, now. I have come to a point in my life that I feel that I have done all that I possibly can with ‚ÄúmewithoutYou,‚Äù and I am ready to move on to pursue another adventure. I was with the band for over three years and I‚Äôm so thankful for all the opportunities and blessings that were given to me during this time period. The guys in the band are amazing individuals, and I feel honored to have worked and to know all of them. They are now and always have been, first and foremost, friends and now a family so obviously they‚Äôre no hard feelings or tension or anything like that. It is just my time to move on. “”

The band recently released Catch Us for the Foxes.

Observations on the FM dial

It amazes me the progress that has been made by radio when in one night I hear PINBACK, WAKING ASHLAND, THE OFFSPRING, and THE POSTAL SERVICE in a row on respective southern California radio stations.
