PASSION “Sic Semper Tyrannis”

Intensity is a good word to describe Philadelphia’s PASSION. On their debut six song EP, this five piece culls together doses of modern metallic hardcore with elements of thrash, and somehow, the results reminds me of early HIMSA, and “We Are The Romans” era BOTCH. One thing that really wins me over about this release [...]

MP3 of the Week: PERMANENT

Unsigned and straight out of Richmond, VA, PERMANENT have a few songs posted that show signs of a blossoming melodic hardcore band that labels will be drooling over fairly soon. I spend 9 months out of the year in Richmond, and still barely heard about these guys until they posted promo on our message board, but they are more than worth checking out for fans of CRIME IN STEREO and SILENT MAJORITY.

WAKE UP COLD “Deliver Me From Evil”

For all the “featuring former members of…” tags this band can boast about (D.C. based groups DARKEST HOUR, UNDERMIND, and NEXT STEP UP being amongst them), WAKE UP COLD’s “Deliver Me From Evil” is surprisingly mundane. Run-of-the-mill hardcore that brings to mind a poor man’s HATEBREED, WAKE UP COLD is simply bland. Nothing about the [...]

From the Rumor Mill:

Taken from AP.net: “”Geoff Rickley of Thursday, Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw/Head Automatica, Alex Saavedra of Eyeball Records, Eric Cooper of Kiss It Goodbye, and Chee of The Number Twelve Looks Like You are starting an untitled project together. The sound is said to be a mix of screaming and grind and Geoff, Daryl and Cooper are all singing and playing guitar.”"

Interesting mix, expect either a very abstract, experimental sound or nothing at all. I’m pretty skeptical about this one, but I also fell for the rumor of GLASSJAW breaking up, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Victory Records’ A 18 Breaks Up

Ripped from the ever so reliable Lambgoat.com:

California’s A18, aka Amendment Eighteen, have apparently broken up, recently releasing this cryptic statement:

“”It’s over Jonny. No Last show. No nothing. Some of us cared too much. Some of us couldn’t care less. Thanks to those who were there for us. We love you.”"

Formed roughly seven years ago, the group has previously released material with such labels as Victory Records and New Age Records.

EISLEY “Marvelous Things EP”

The dreamy, delicate pop sound of EISLEY has helped the band develop a major backing by indie radio stations and has landed them a spot on Reprise. With “Marvelous Things”, the group again teases its fans by giving mere glimpses of what this band is capable of. A much-anticipated debut full length is finally in [...]

NORTHSTAR take hiatus, still sound too much like TAKING BACK SUNDAY

Northstar will be taking some time off, and has cancelled all upcoming shows through the end of the year. The band posted the following message on their site:

“”We have cancelled all of our upcoming shows for this year. We need some time to take a step back for a while. Hopefully you somewhat understand. Thank you for your support. This has been a rough year.”"
