What Jordan meant to say…

..was he saw Carmen R. at the American Idol tour and it was exciting.

But you still skipped the Cave In/Explosion/Paint It Black show for it. That's got to sting. I wonder how that show went? Was it the best show ever or did it just achieve a piddly rating of "fucking awesome?"

Alright, I admit it…

I use Garnier Fructis on my hair because they used a Transplants song in one of their commercials. Yes, I, too, am a victim of clever marketing. Bastards.

I saw Ian MacKaye at the American Idol Tour

No wait, I'm lying.

Farragut Square

I've walked by this small park in DC every morning on the way to work this summer, and it's one of those true urban paradigms. You've got the short, heavily beared, crazy guy with a megaphone espousing religious nonsense (every other word being 'transgression'); the sad looking elderly lady selling almost-dead flowers; the assorted assemblage of people sleeping in awkward positions on benches too small for their own dimensions; and the unfortunate signs of DC's ever-growing homeless population. It's the kind of park that makes you appreciate your ability to walk past it, board the metro, and remove one's self from the outside world, but it also keeps you aware of what is out there away from office cubicles and comfortable apartments.

dude…

I got a free sample of the Fructis stuff in DC a few weeks ago. It smells awesome (re: girly), but totally made my hair stringy and unmanageable. I can't believe I just typed that. Oh well.

SIXER “Saving Grace”

Alrighty, this is a pretty easy review. Let’s do in recipe style. Take a gruffer ANN BERETTA, simmer for 20 minutes, add in a big bowl of AVAIL, minus the crazy breakdowns, and top it all off with some HOT WATER MUSIC and DROPKICK MURPHYS spices. Actually SIXER sizzle with a pretty original sound, but [...]

ROCKSOUND magazine

While it costs $6.50 as it is a British import, I highly recommend checking out Rocksound Magazine. Not only does it come with a sampler cd which is always excellent (last month it included a shredding new NORA song which I have not seen for download anywhere or on any comp's, as well as a track from the amazing British group THE BLUEPRINT), but it generally contains around 150 reviews per month and the quality of writing is quite good. This month's cover features the big name Brits THE DARKNESS, and has a great article/exhibition on possibly the most influential and identifiable artist in the proverbial scene, DEREK HESS (you even get a free Hess poster). The issue also has big stories on KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and THRICE.

It's better than Alternative Press, kids. A LOT better.

SICK SHIFT “Angry Badgers”

This isn’t quite a brand new release, but this band is still unsigned and is promoting it, so I was glad to review it. SICK SHIFT are an impressive outfit from Santa Barbara, California that play melodic hardcore in the vein of what Fat Wreck Chords put in the mid 1990s. LAGWAGON fans, take note!! [...]
