Cause It’s Just So Darn Important…

…I think this should be reported on twice. Aubin at Punknews.org turned me on to a very sketchy plan by the Federal Government concerning 1-800-SUICUIDE, a help line that has received calls from over 2 million troubled individuals.

The whole thing is kind of complicated, but from what I understand, the Federal Government wants access to the confidential information of 1-800-SUICIDE‚Äôs callers; 1-800-SUICIDE won’t comply. Now – according to save1800suicide.org and about a million different bloggers – the Federal Government is threatening to cut their funding, or worse, take them over.

I think Terrance at the blog The Republic of T said it best: “Imagine a troubled gay teenager contemplating suicide, dialing a suicide prevention line, and getting James Dobson on the other end.” Studies show that gay men and women are more likely to suffer from depression than heterosexuals, and with the Federal Government’s record concerning homosexuality, a take over of 1-800-SUICIDE should freak a whole lot of folks out.

But I’m rambling; I do not want pastepunk to ever become a website that tells you what to think. Please head over to Save1800Suicide.com and listen to what they have to say, and do some research of your own.

In the words of Blake Schwarzenbach “Mercy, pick up your guitar. We’ll need a lot of heroes for this war.”

1-800-SUICIDE To Be Disconnected?

The Bush administration is looking to remove 1-800-SUICIDE’s funding from the hotline because the organization refuses to turn over its phone calls to the government.

EVERY TIME I DIE “Gutter Phenomenon”

I Just Got Back From Warped

Hot. Sweaty. Screaming. Ears throbbing. I’ll make it quick.

VAUX and RISE AGAINST were at some of the best I’ve seen them.

LESS THAN JAKE and THE BOUNCING SOULS remain two of the greatest live groups I have ever witnessed.

There will be a review and pictures.
