Karl Rove doesn’t like journalism? Get outta town!!!

Not exactly music related, but it’s something that I think all you bloggers and zine writers will find interesting.

Basically the story goes like this: Speaking to George Washington University students, Presidential adviser Karl Rove made a comment suggesting many journalists are critical of politicians to divert attention from the “corrosive role” they play in our society.

This is a really interesting comment because the definition of what makes a journalist is changing rapidly in the new millennium. Ten years ago, this criticism would only be directed to professional journalists like AP and CNN. But with blogging, ground roots journalism, and even online zine writing gaining new ground every day, this criticism isn’t just directed at dudes with masters in journalism; it’s directed at a lot of you as well.

Sticking up for the freedom of the press didn’t weigh on non-journalists minds too much in the past – these days, it’s really an issue that affects us all.

BLEEDER RESISTOR “Sixteen EP”

Washington DC’s BLEEDER RESISTOR have been a fairly active local group in the past couple of years and while a full-length recording has eluded them, they have assembled their most advanced material yet with this Matt Squire recorded, six song EP Sixteen. What has intrigued me from the start with this band is that their [...]

WARPED TOUR 2006 @ Comerica Park, Detroit, MI 7/29/06

The Warped Tour has long been one of those events that I don’t mind shelling out a few bucks for. Out of all the bands that play each year, I know that I’ll at least enjoy a few. Combine that with the fact that the Detroit stop always seems to draw the most fans (a [...]

Pitchfork Music Festival @ Union Park, Chicago, IL. July 7/29/06

With its fabulous lineup this year, I ran out and picked up tickets right away to Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival. Admittedly, I had heard of many of the bands, but had not heard their music, but with the ticket price for the first day a mere twenty dollars, it sounded too good to pass up. [...]

LAGWAGON, THE LAWRENCE ARMS, A WILHELM SCREAM @ The Trocadero, Philadephia, PA 7/29/06

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the LAGWAGON show at the Trocadero theater in downtown Philadelphia. It’s been probably a good 3 years since I last saw the WAGON. Needless to say, I was a bit pumped. I arrived at the Troc with plenty of time to spare and waited about 40 minutes [...]

According to the Washington Post, arena sales are on the uptick, with acts like U2 and THE ROLLING STONES selling over $70 million in ticket sales, but the “surprise” this year is FALL OUT BOY, tallying over $9.8 million in concert ticket sales.

THE BLED “Found In The Flood”

Like a purchasing a race car with a speed limiter installed, THE BLED have all of the necessary arsenal to be a top-notch heavy band, but are held back by a creative vision that wants to go in a different direction. Found In The Flood, the band’s second full-length, and first for Vagrant Records is [...]

UNDEROATH Drops Off Of Warped Tour, Cites “Focusing on Friendship”

From the inbox:

UNDEROATH have canceled their upcoming appearances on the Vans Warped Tour due to unforeseen circumstances. “We’re deeply frustrated and sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We felt it necessary to take some immediate time to focus on our friendship, as that’s more important than risking it for the sake of touring at this time,” the band stated.
