A WILHELM SCREAM “Mute Print”

2004 is turning out to be a very good year for the return of West Coast (born or influenced) melodic hardcore. With new material from BAD RELIGION, THE DESCENDENTS, PULLEY, TEN FOOT POLE, BREAK THE SILENCE and eventually, STRUNG OUT, it might as well be 1996 all over again. But there’s a wildcard to this [...]

INSTED still making headlines…

I spotted this in the latest revhq.com update:

NEWM001 INSTED – “”Live at CBGB”" CD $10.60

After breaking up in 1991 Insted returned in the Summer of 2004 to play five reunion shows in celebration of their discography CD which was released on Indecision Records. Three shows on the East Coast, and two on the West Coast. On June 27th, 2004 Insted played the legendary CBGB in New York City and the show was recorded and documented for this release. 18 songs filled with energy and positivity. The vinyl for this release with be available exclusively through Revelation Distribution on Livewire Records in March. New Music Revolution.

I don’t have the dates handy, but I also read that INSTED will heading off to Europe shortly for a two-week tour. I haven’t anything about the quality of the live recording on here, so I can’t make any comments about that (though I’d looooooove to get a copy for review!), but the Indecision Records discography is nothing short of essential for any hardcore fan.

Rumor Mill…

Punktastic.com is reporting that Fueled By Ramen is announcing the signing of KANE HODDER sometime next week. I haven’t seen this posted elsewhere, so take it with a grain of salt, but nonetheless, that would be pretty cool. KANE HODDER released their debut full-length in 2004, titled The Pleasure to Remain so Heartless on Cowboy vs. Sailor/Suburban Home and its a rather impressive slab of melodic, but turbulent emoish hardcore. The band’s pureVOLUME site can be found here.

Onegoldenspoon.com relaunches again!

The less-than-stable zine Onegoldenspoon.com is back with a new design and plenty of new content. I’ve always liked this site and the people that have been behind it, so here’s to wishing that they have now found themselves with solid footing.

Lambgoat.com interviews THE SLEEPING

Lambgoat doesn’t post interviews all that often, but when they do, they’re almost always worth reading. The the latest band to face their interrogation is THE SLEEPING, and there’s some interesting things said about how a new band, with a relatively new sound juggles associations with its past as a well-known hardcore band (SKYCAMEFALLING). Check it out here.

First Issue of Legendary Flipside Magazine scanned; memories revisted

This is a pretty incredible story… Punknews.org this morning posted a link to person who scanned the entire first issue of the famous LA punk zine, Flipside, which was released in 1977. I didn’t get into reading Flipside until the mid 90s, and for awhile, it was without a doubt, the most exciting thing I had ever focused my teenage eyes upon. While the images that became familar to me while getting into NYHC were often shrouded around anti-social attitudes and themes of that nature, Flipside’s LA focus was far more varied, and duly committed to the sex, drugs, and rock n’roll lifestyle that was so festively celebrated. From the punknews.org post: “Within the 1977 issue you’ll find reviews of the first Clash and Jam records, Germs and Venus And The Razorblades singles and an interview with Eulogy.” The original link to this story came from the always excellent blog, Boingboing.net. Check out the Flipside issue here. When Flipside finally ended around 2000, Razorcake rose out of the ashes with many of Flipside’s longtime contributors.

THE HURT PROCESS “Drive By Monologue”

Do you ever get the feeling from record labels that certain releases come off as derivatives of other releases from the same label? During Fat Wreck’s early years, you had NOFX and LAGWAGON dominating, and it wouldn’t be inappropriate to suggest that somehow out of those two, the label begot STRUNG OUT. A few years [...]
