FIRE DIVINE “It’s All A Blur EP”

Featuring ex-members of THE JUNE SPIRIT (really awful emo-pop) and A LIFE ONCE LOST (really awesome math metalcore), this disc, before playing it, had me hoping that any influences from the latter band would pummel those of the former. While I’m not sure that such a confluence and takeover of sounds actually happened between those [...]

By The Way

NINE INCH NAILS headlining at Coachella is siiiiiiiiiick. I might have to switch coasts for that one.

Observations on the news of the day

-I had the pleasure of seeing DESPITADO a couple months back, it’s a shame to see them go
-That UNEARTH album still rules
-Anyone up for giving a lowly zine writer free tickets to Coachella? $150 is outrageous, and does anyone else think THRICE stands out on the bill? I know the new album will be different, but…
-I still can’t get into the new Q AND NOT U, am I the only one?

Q AND NOT U tapped to support INTERPOL!

From the inbox:

After a successful fall US tour and a European jaunt in December, that the band describes as the best tour ever, Q And Not U will be hitting the road in March with INTERPOL! Below are the tour dates. In April, the band will be headlining their own tour, and details of that will be published soon!

3.9 – Boston, MA – Orpheum

3.10 – Niagara Falls, NY – The Dome Theatre

3.11 – Chicago, IL – Aragon Ballroom

3.12 – Minneapolis, MN – First Avenue

3.13 – Milwaukee, WI – The Rave

3.15 – St. Louis, MO – Pageant

3.16 – Louisville, KY – WL Lyons Browne Theatre

3.18 – Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Revolution

3.19 – St. Petersburg, FL – Jannus Landing

3.20 – Lake Buena, FL – House of Blues

- Q AND NOT U’s latest release, Power, is stellar. After you’ve grown tired of THE KILLERS (which is thoroughly inevitable!), this is a great band to grapple onto, if you have not done so already!

The Oncoming Storm bulks up…

According to theprp.com, UNEARTH will be reissuing their latest album The Oncoming Storm with two bonus tracks and the video for “”Black Hearts Now Reign”" through Metal Blade on March 08th.

- I haven’t seen this posted anywhere on the Metal Blade site, so who knows… but anyway – does anyone know what the two bonus tracks will be? This disc has been approaching the 100,000 mark in sales, and re-release will definitely give it a little push.

THE SCARE – Washington DC supergroup?

I can’t seem to find any tunes from this band yet, but it sounds pretty interesting:

“”THE SCARE is a brand-new 5 piece out of WASHINGTON D.C. featuring current and ex-members of: AFFRONT, WORN THIN, THE GOONS, MERCY KILLERS and GOOD CLEAN FUN. Lyrically THE SCARE are reminiscent of early abstract horror-punk bands such as SAMHAIN and CHRISTIAN DEATH. Musically they bring a perfect blend of fast pissed-off punk, throwing in some moshy hardcore without the metal-core cheese that’s so prevalent in other “”hardcore”" bands of today, and finally a good dose of good old-fashioned rock n’ roll catchiness.”"

They’ve got a myspace page going on here.

DESPITADO going out in a flame of downloads?

From punknews.org:

While Saskatchewan based Despistado disbanded earlier this month, they did leave behind a full-length worth of material for release on Jade Tree. The label has set an April 5th digital release date for The People Of And Their Verses, so it’s still unknown if there will be a physical CD release at this point. A song from the 12 track collection is online now, so check out “”Burning House.”" The full track listing and cover art for the release can be found on the label’s website.

mp3: DESPITADO – Burning House

- I hope Jade Tree completes the experiment and makes this a digital only release. I’m not aware of any other label of its size in the indie community going that route thus far, and given the obvious fact that DESPITADO are not going to be touring in support of it, what’s there to lose? (OK – plenty of people still have no access to broadband whatsoever, and that is a major limiting factor). As Jade Tree’s catalog is now well-represented on Rhapsody, that too provides an environment where a digital only release may thrive. Hmmm….
