FIRE DIVINE “It’s All A Blur EP”

Featuring ex-members of THE JUNE SPIRIT (really awful emo-pop) and A LIFE ONCE LOST (really awesome math metalcore), this disc, before playing it, had me hoping that any influences from the latter band would pummel those of the former. While I’m not sure that such a confluence and takeover of sounds actually happened between those parties mentioned, there is a strangely organic feeling to FIRE DIVINE that gives the four songs on here a hefty dose of character. At only 16 minutes in length, this EP is a preview at best. And since the band toils with a variety of influences (the third tune could fit nicely into WEEZER’s discography; the fourth song grinds out like mid 90s post-hardcore a la ORANGE 9MM…at least until the SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE shoegazer ending kicks in), “It’s All A Blur” is accurately named. FIRE DIVINE bubble with talent from just about every direction, and even though they seem a bit stylistically challenged (in focus), it’s not hard to find a blueprint for huge potential from what’s on display. If you dig quirky, energetic post-punk with well-sung vocals, FIRE DIVINE got it going on.
