AVENGED SEVENFOLD “Waking The Fallen”

On AVENGED SEVENFOLD’s second full-length trist, these guys put forth something so over-the-top that it practically defies all stabs of classification or comparison. Every aspect of the band’s affinity for heavy fucking metal has been been wrought through the processor of “taken to the extreme,” so much so that these guys wind up with 12 [...]

SWINGIN’ UTTERS ecard for “Live in a Dive”

I’ve had a soft spot for THE SWINGIN’ UTTERS since I procured “”The Streets of San Fransico”" some eight years ago. This band has gone through a bulk of dramatic changes in sound over the years (mostly for the better), and to hear all of their various songwriting periods come together on this tiiiiiiight live disc was far better than I expected. And the best part about it? Unlike watching them live, you don’t have to deal with the band being so drunk they can barely stand up to play!

Article on the fate of KaZaa

I have no love for the KaZaa program, especially after it nearly killed my last computer some two years ago (before I was wiser about such programs and spyware). An interesting article today in CNET discusses the marketplace outlook for the product and the competition it faces from other services, as well an emerging KaZaa/Altnet business model that proclaims to carry a bit more legitimacy.

Spotlight on: THE PAPER CHAMPIONS

Atlanta’s THE PAPER CHAMPIONS’ debut full-length, “”Weekend of Comprise”" only arrived at Pastepunk HQ a couple of hours ago, but it’s already made a healthy impression. With a gorgeous, dense, emo-rock sound, THE PAPER CHAMPIONS crank out heartfelt tunes in a manner that screams, “”we still care about the music!”" One might recall this band from their appearance “”Emo Diaries #9″” where they were a true standout in a sea of very good bands. If hollow, cliche ridden nu-emo has you depressed, a copy of “”Weekend of Compromise”" should be placed on rush order.

OVER IT prepares new album!

Courtesy of absolutepunk.net:

“”The new Over It record will be titled “”Silverstrand,”" and if all goes according to plan, it will hit shelves on October 5th. The band is currently wrapping up recording for the 18 song effort with Mike Green (The Matches). I’ve got a hunch that this will be the album that elevates the band to the next level. In other Over It news, they will be heading out on tour with Rufio after Warped Tour. Dates to be announced soon.”"

- 18 songs?!?!

For those who come here to read up on copyright law…

All two of you…

The Supreme Court of Canada reached a ruling today discussing the liability/immunity of ISPs when their customers either upload or download unlawfully shared music files across the net, and whether they owed royalties to a handful of interested copyright parties. Unlike the United States, Canada does not have similar provision to that in the DMCA that grants immunity to ISPs in such circumstances. Thankfully, the Court maintained its senses and ruled 9-0 in favor of the ISPs. The full decision is a bit long, but it expectedly deconstructs the issues in fine detail.
