REIGN SUPREME – “Testing The Limits of Infinite”

Reign Supreme have always been a band I’ve felt torn about.  It seems with each aspect of their band I absolutely love, there’s an equally as disappointing aspect as well.  Without listing all the band’s pros and cons, I will say their music continually impresses me, but I’ve seen singer Jay Pepito throw more on-stage [...]

BALTIMORE ALL-STARS SLUMLORDS TO PLAY REUNION SHOWS

Since playing their last show to a sold out crowd in January 2007, Baltimore’s SLUMLORDS have only continued to gain popularity around the world. Featuring current and ex-members of BREAKDOWN, PULLING TEETH, STOUT, and TRAPPED UNDER ICE, the band will be joining forces once again for two rare appearances this coming August and intend to play songs from both classic LPs (released by Perfect Victim and Lockin’ Out)!

The first SLUMLORDS show in well over 2 years will be part of a benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on August 8th at Sidebar in Baltimore, Maryland for the 3rd Annual Jersey Mike Fest. This annual event was started to commemorate a beloved member of the Baltimore hardcore scene, “Jersey” Mike Baumeister, who passed away in February 2006. Also appearing at the festival will be Pulling Teeth, Ruiner, Brick, No Redeeming Social Value, a rare appearance by xLooking Forwardx, and more.

A week later on August 15th, SLUMLORDS will also perform at the 4th Annual This Is Hardcore Fest, to be held at Starland Ballroom in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For more information about the festival, visit: www.myspace.com/thisishardcorefest

In related news, Domenic Romeo of SLUMLORDS will be releasing the long-awaited DVD from the band, entitled “On The Tip”, via his label A389 Recordings around the time of these two shows.

CIV “Solid Bond: The Complete Discography”

I find myself very torn about this discography being compiled and released.  First off, CIV’s Set Your Goals has been among my favorite records since it’s release in 1995 (and I often can be heard debating that the album’s hardcore songs are some of the best ever written), but the follow-up Thirteen Day Getaway disappointed [...]

REACHING HAND “Threshold”

What’s the deal with Portuguese hardcore bands and appendages??  Prior to hearing this EP from REACHING HAND, the only other hardcore band from Portugal I’d ever heard was POINTING FINGER.  Yet their names are pretty much where the similarities end.  While Pointing Finger were straight-forward, youth crew revivalists, Reaching Hand blend that style with a [...]

NARROWS “New Distances”

When I heard that a band featuring former members of such an all-star pedigree as Narrows had formed, I couldn’t help but have pretty high expectations.  Unfortunately, when musicians steer away from what their past endeavors it can sometimes lead to disappointment… as is sadly the case here. Despite contributing to such great bands as [...]
