Editorial Content

1. COBRA SKULLS have their BAD RELIGION cover “Give You Nothing” from the Germs of Perfection tribute compilation streaming on MySpace. The newly signed to Fat Wreck band enlisted NOFX frontman Fat Mike for some help with the tune, which admirably honors the past and sounds much like COBRA SKULLS. Well done fellas.

2. For something a bit more “dramatic”, you can stream the new BRING ME THE HORIZON full-length There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Lets Keep It A Secret on MySpace as well. Brevity is not something these guys do well…

3. Keeping this stream focused, 90s NYHC band YUPPICIDE have a 12 song sampler from their 2xCD anthology set (Dead City Records) running at AMP Magazine. One of the more original bands of the era, the group combined technical musicianship with a rough-edged, burly sound that fit in neatly between the mosh-metal NYHC of the 90s and its memorable street-punk tendencies.

4. Alright, who else spends hours on Google Earth looking at massive highway interchanges around the country? I recommend the Dallas Five-Stack and the Springfield (VA) Mixing Bowl (the latter one is only a few miles from my house – let’s just say that when my son is ready to drive in 14 years, we’ll put off that 24 lane monster for a little while…).

5. We’re working on something really cool for Pastepunk’s 12th Anniversary next month. If you remember our 10th Anniversary, that’s a good hint.

6. It’s tough to be in a band called BONDED BY BLOOD and have to deal with membership changes. Then again, not as tough as being in a band named ALL SHALL PERISH and flipping your van flip…

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN Detail “Here Is No Exit” Picture Disc LP

From the inbox:

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN throw down an infinite slab of brutality in the form of a Picture Disc LP. Epic pummeling! Eleven ragers: four songs recorded in 2010 plus seven more songs ripped forth from their formerly conjoined split companions, sutured, cauterized, and shaken not stirred. Behold! (Includes Download Code and fancy inserts, not to mention the unsettling art of Dan Rossiter throughout and a guest appearance by artist Vincent Locke.) THM continues their legacy, twisting and warping the bedrock of the noise they love to burn! Brace yourself for heavy doses of d-beat, bitter demented vocals, and over the top guitar leads!

In the vein of World Burns To Death, Poison Idea, Anti Cimex, Death Side, Born Against, His Hero Is Gone, and a wide range of Japanese and Scandinavian punk/hardcore!

Vadim Taver Premieres Solo Debut (ex-THIS DAY FORWARD, MARIGOLD)

Vadim Taver, former member of the supremely underrated bands THIS DAY FORWARD and MARIGOLD has released his debut solo full-length Expand, Escape. The twelve song recording is available as a pay-what-you-want download and free stream via Bandcamp (listen below!). Taver wrote and recorded almost all of the  music himself. The songs vary between full-band and stripped down acoustic numbers. ELLIOT SMITH and THE BEATLES are cited as influences.

- Taver’s voice really shined in MARIGOLD and that is the case on these songs too. If you’re into CIRCA SURVIVE or Anthony Green’s solo work, definitely give this a listen.

THE SHOWDOWN – “Blood In The Gears”

Words never uttered by THE SHOWDOWN: “Let’s make a modest sounding record.” On their fourth full-length, Tennessee’s southern-tinged metal mashers continue with the belief in making records with some of the most gigantic sounding studio production available. Blood In The Gears starts with a sample of a rumbling motorcycle engine, and it is wildly apropos. More [...]

SUCH GOLD Streaming “Pedestals”

Rochester, New York pop-punk/melodic hardcore band SUCH GOLD have made their new six song EP Pedestals available for streaming/download on the band’s Bandcamp page. The 6131 Records release leaked almost two months before its formal CD/LP release date, so the band has now made it available to all in digital form. Notably, the EP includes guest vocals by Karl Buechner of EARTH CRISIS and Ken Vasoli of THE STARTING LINE (a combination I am not likely to see repeated on Pastepunk ever again…). Give it a listen below!
