New State of Mind artists REVIVER are streaming their brand new EP Potential Wasteland on the Salt Lake City hardcore blog Grudge City Activities. You can listen to the recording here and the band has supplied the back-story the lyrics as well.

1. THIS IS HELL have posted another new song from their forthcoming third album, Weight of the World. Head over to their MySpace page to listen to “No One Leaves Unscathed.” The Rise Records release hits stores on June 8th, and from the first few songs previewed, it certainly seems like it is going to be a monster hardcore record for 2010.

2. Black Numbers has signed Jersey punk rock group BANQUET. The band features former members of LET ME RUN and THE BANNER. The band’s debut song, “Eleanor, I need a Garden,” is streaming here. Their first release is a 7″ titled This Is Our Concern, Dude.

3. That new STONE TEMPLE PILOTS album is a big pile of meh. When everyone’s happy and working together in that band, the music just comes out soft…

4. GREEN DAY is listed as having a new release on eMusic on June 8th. That’s also their Rock Band release date. Anyone have an idea of what that eMusic entry is about?

5. Being a fan of cruises, this blurb from a press release immediately caught my attention:

70,000 TONS OF METAL CRUISE: In January 2011, forty heavy metal bands plus 2,000 fans will take over the luxury cruise ship “Majesty of the Seas” and head for the Caribbean for a 5-day/4-night trip of a lifetime.

This is no ordinary cruise… this is 100% heavy metal! With tons of on-board live shows on several in and outdoor stages, open mic nights, bars that never close, a fun-& -sun-filled day on the beautiful island of Cozumel, México, and the opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the performing artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario, this experience has no comparison. It’s like everyone has a backstage pass!”

Confirmed bands include EXODUS, OBITUARY, AMON AMARTH, RAVEN, SONATA ARCTICA, SWASHBUCKLE (which kind of makes sense, given the whole Pirate Metal thing…), TESTAMENT, and others. A total of 40 bands are planned to participate. All of the details are here. Do they still have the formal dining? Can you take your battle axe into the spa?

6. Metalsucks recently interviewed Tara Johnson of the un-hiatused DISEMBODIED. If you want the short version, the answer to every question is basically, “fuck it,” “I don’t give a fuck,” and “I don’t give a shit anymore.” Good to know.

7. Underrated song: PENNYWISE – “My Own Way,” from Straight Ahead. Stream it here.

Eulogy Signs WE STILL DREAM

From the inbox:

Eulogy Recordings are very proud to announce the signing of Jacksonville, Florida’s pop-punk/rock band WE STILL DREAM. They are hitting the road late May/early June with CHANGE TODAY and in August with label mates THE TIRED AND TRUE. Their new album will be released on Eulogy Recordings this fall. The band is currently planning a fall tour to support the new album.

Guitarist Michael Davis commented “We’re really exited to be signing with Eulogy. We have all been listening to Eulogy bands since we were like 14, and it’s awesome to think now that were going to be a part of the Eulogy family. The album was recorded and produced by Matt Robnett at Big Sky Audio (A Loss For Words, Four Year Strong) in Philly.”

Eulogy owner John Wylie added “We have been talking with WE STILL DREAM for over a year now. We finally came to an agreement with them to become part of the Eulogy family. We feel they are one of the best bands of their genre. Their new album will showcase this and bring them to the next level. We are very proud to be a part of this release.”

- Dude on the right in the photo looks like he forgot what kind of band he plays in. Maybe he was a stand in from Eulogy dudes THICK AS BLOOD. A more casual, less ‘hard’ photo can be found on the band’s MySpace page. RIYL: NEW FOUND GLORY, HIT THE LIGHTS…

Will MySpace Keep Streaming Free Music? Maybe.

In an interesting and fairly ambiguous interview posted at TechCrunch, MySpace co-Presidents discuss the current state of MySpace and the status of streaming music across its site. Besides allowing bands to host several songs in a streaming media on MySpace, the site also streams hundreds of thousands of full-length albums (paying fractions of pennies on each stream, but which still adds up to millions and millions of dollars each month). All five of Pastepunk’s digital album reissues are able to be streamed in full on the site. Without a doubt, many bands have fled their MySpace pages to create Facebook pages and other assorted social media destinations. Anecdotally, the amount of bulletins I get each day from bands has decreased dramatically, which is unfortunate since that was a major source of Pastepunk news for some time. But more importantly, no site makes it easier for bands to make a first impression than MySpace. It is by far the easiest site to put your music in front of people and to present the essentials such as tour dates and ways to contact and connect with a band, and it’s design customization beats the snot out of the clean, but conformist style of Facebook (which in truly shocking fashion, has still not figured out a way for musicians to make streaming as upfront as it is on MySpace). For this, it’s vitally imperative for the independent music community to keep tabs on MySpace’s movements on music streaming, and making sure that the role of music on the site becomes a to big to fail issue — if streaming music ends on MySpace, the site will likely go down in flames with it.

MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE Have a “Crimson Grin”

Solid State metalcore band MYCHILDREN MYBRIDE have posted a brand new song titled “Crimson Grin” to their MySpace page. It’s the second new song to surface from their upcoming full-length Lost Boy (out on June 8th), following last week’s debut of “Terra Firma.” Notably, the band is offering their own branded cologne as part of the pre-order packages for Lost Boy… can’t say I’ve seen that before. Hopefully it’s not scented like “sweaty man mosh” or “14 day tour with no showers.”

1. Emusic’s new “Steals and Deals” section is featuring a bunch of new releases from Hydra Head at a discounted download rate. Anti has a number of new titles in the promotion as well. I just grabbed Anti’s new DR. DOG record Shame Shame (and so far, so good).

2. Fun thing to do: try to imitate the galloping forbidden-beat drumming of NO USE FOR A NAME’s “International You Day” with your mouth.

3. I’m as big an ANDREW WK fan as anyone, but I’m kind of wishing I never followed his Twitter account. The talent of his ‘creation’ does not benefit from overexposure.

4. This year’s Sound and Fury line-up has been finalized. Punknews has the details, and is one of the main sponsors. I believe the mission statement this year was “let’s get every awesome hardcore band around and see if they’ll play, and maybe a few pop-punk bands, and maybe some awesome old hardcore bands, and see if we’re still alive to enjoy day three…”

5. Video: AUGUST BURNS RED – “White Washed”

I believe the video treatment for this one was “Band plays before white background. White sometimes appears in foreground.” Sarcasm aside, these guys are a pleasure to watch, live and in pseudo-live video form…

SKULL CRUSHER – “Blinded By Illusion” EP

To appreciate SKULL CRUSHER is to recognize a few background details: (1) the band features Ed McKirdy of Livewire Records (and also formerly of HANDS TIED, TRIPLE THREAT, and THE KILLING FLAME; (2) Brian “Gordo” Jordan, of the Doublecross hardcore blog; and two other guys have played in RESURRECTION, MOUTHPIECE, and ON THE RISE, respectively.
