Stereogum Offers “50 Bands, 50 Free MP3s”

Excellent music blog site stereogum.com has posted an interesting collection of 50 mp3s from indie bands all of shapes and sizes. Most of the songs are from new or upcoming releases and include material from bands like 31KNOTS, SCANNERS, THE CZARS, PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES, MARITIME, THE SOUNDS, NEKO CASE, VOXTROT, and those lovable, quaint crooners FROM FIRST TO LAST. Check it out, and never miss a tune again by subscribing to the site’s MP3 feed

Act Now! Don’t Delay! This Could Be Your Last Chance!

Here’s a slightly atypical news post from what I usually include on the site…

Word has it that mindsetoverhaul.com has only five copies left of INSIDE’s first full-length Seven Inches To Wall Drug (on CD). Apparently these are the only copies left in print anywhere. I would consider INSIDE to be one of the most important bands ever to come out of Long Island, along with SILENT MAJORITY and their unique style of emo and post-hardcore was years and years ahead of the curve. I can’t recommend Seven Inches To Wall Drug enough, so please check out the listing here, listen to the songs included, and consider ordering it. The price as listed is only $7.50 (plus $3.00 for shipping). I guarantee you won’t be sorry for picking this one up!

THE MINOR TIMES Works On New Album For Prosthetic

From the inbox:

Pennsylvania-based THE MINOR TIMES have commented on the progress of an upcoming album, the follow up to its Prosthetic debut Making Enemies. The band commented to their mailing list members:

“Hello! You guessed it, we’re still working on the record. Think of it as several months of foreplay. We want you to be nice and wet by the time the record comes out. Our first show back as The “new” Minor Times will be in our hometown (Lansdale, PA) on Friday May 12th at the VFW. New guitarist, new lights, and new songs. Visit http://www.theminortimes.com for full details. We’re gonna do a few weekends throughout May and June by ourselves and with some friends (Engineer, The End of the Universe). Then we will hit the studio in July. This month, we will demo everything in our practice space and possibly post a song or two on http://www.myspace.com/theminortimes.”

- I don’t listen to Making Enemies nearly enough. We toss around words like “intense” or “brutal” all the time for metalcore releases but THE MINOR TIMES transcend all of that and are simply jarring…

Deathwish Creates Exclusive Shirt To Benefit Punk Planet

From the Deathwish Newsletter:

“As many of you have read in recent months, our friends at PUNK PLANET have been battling Indie Distribution woes as of late. In short, they are having a difficult time being compensated for their sales through their current Distributor (who they themselves are alledgedly having cash flow issues).

To aid PUNK PLANET in fighting the good fight, DEATHWISH have donated a shirt design to PUNK PLANET.

Be sure to pick one up through their e-store and show your support for their efforts. They are one of the best Punk oriented publications ever, in our opinion.

Both albums have been re-mastered with new artwork and Hearts Once… will feature some sweet bonus material. The artwork is complete and for the completists, you won’t be able to have one release without the other. Expect both reissues out on Revelation this summer followed by a DVD out on At Dawn We Wage War Records.”

MORE TO PRIDE “This is Life”

It’s still early in 2005, but MORE TO PRIDE’s This is Life has quickly become one of my favorite hardcore releases of the year thus far. Fast, pissed off, and traditional in every sense (though graced by the gift of modern recording tools), MORE TO PRIDE’s sound is part NYHC, part IN CONTROL, and a [...]
