SNUFF “Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other”

When this SNUFF retrospective disc arrived in the mail, it dawned on me that many artists on Fat’s roster are closing in on those “Greatest Hits” and “B-sides” years, where catalogs are bolstered by giving fans everything they could possibly want. Given Fat’s track record in delivery high-quality goods in their “Live in a Dive” [...]

Spotlight On: INVADE

Long Island is still overflowing with great up-and-coming bands, and INVADE definitely belongs on that list. These guys claim influences from TRIAL, UNBROKEN, INDECISION, UNDERTOW, HARVEST, among others (which basically covers a who’s who of amazing hardcore bands from the late 90s and earlier), and their songs don’t lie. Check out three songs on the band’s myspace page from their self-produced EP.

New CALIBAN Release To Come With Abacus Sampler in Hot Topic Stores

Abacus Recordings’ THE DISTANCE sent out this message via myspace concerning their upcoming debut release. This thing has “cross-promotion” written all over it…

“The new CALIBAN cd, The Undying Darkness, comes out April 4th. The CALIBAN is in listening stations at Hot Topic, so it should be in every HT. A label sampler comes with the cd that is exclusive to Hot Topic. “Inspired By You” (WHICH IS THE FIRST SINGLE FROM OUR DEBUT ALBUM!!) is the lead track on the sampler. Its also got a new SICK OF IT ALL song, new IGNITE song, GLASS CASKET and many more!!!”

ALL ELSE FAILED Joins Thorp Records

From the inbox:

“Thorp Records is proud to welcome Philadelphia killing machine, ALL ELSE FAILED to the family. ALL ELSE FAILED has been pulverizing the metal/hardcore scene with their unique sound for a decade, and are now set to perpetuate the sonic destruction. The band will enter the studio to record their Thorp debut Good Enough For The Girls We Roll With this spring for what will be a late summer release. The release will include five new studio tracks, along with a slew of out of print and unreleased tracks from their long career. The effort will be recorded by Nick Rotundo and will be mastered by Alan Douches.”

- These guys have had a long and illustrious run, with their last album “This Never Happened” (Abacus) being arguably their best work to date. I’ve got high hopes for their new songs and that Thorp turns out to be a comfortable home for the band.

Abacus Recordings Signs CLIFTON

From the inbox:

‚ÄúWe here at Abacus are tickled pink to announce the signing of Salt Lake City’s CLIFTON. Combining modern hardcore a la AS I LAY DYING and IN FLAMES with the southern dirge of EYEHATEGOD or CROWBAR, CLIFTON has shared the stage with many diverse acts like KITTIE, SWORN ENEMY, ISIS and CONVERGE. We plan on releasing their debut entitled We Never Change on June 13th with a boatload of touring to ensue all summer long. Check out their myspace page for some clips off of the record.‚Äù

RHETT MILLER made me a believer

I posted some thoughts on a recent Rhett Miller show (front man of the OLD 97′S). I know it’s not exactly punk rock, but anyone into passionate, emotional music should give this guy a listen! You can read my thoughts in our show review section…

ISIS recording soon

Experimental metallers ISIS posted a MySpace bulletin which provides updates on their current tour with DALEK and ZOMBI, but also contains some information on their future recording plans:

“We have confirmed our recording schedule, it looks like we will be headed to the studio here in Los Angeles in June to record our next record. Matt Bayles will be back behind the board working his magic, and if everything goes as planned we should be looking at a Halloween release date.”

Sounds like a pretty awesome Halloween to me…

THE HOLY MOUNTAIN “Bloodstains Across Your Face In Decline”

Bloodstains Across Your Face In Decline is prepared to rip the flesh straight from your bone. With 16 songs of lightning fast crusty punk, and the sonic urgency of a band that’s trying to replicate the thunder of a nuclear discharge, THE HOLY MOUNTAIN is a force to be reckoned with. This release compiles the [...]
