THE REPLACEMENTS Reunite To Record Two New Songs For Upcoming “Best Of” Release on Rhino

From Billboard.com:

“As tipped yesterday (March 28) on Billboard’s Jaded Insider blog, REPLACEMENTS members Paul Westerberg, Tommy Stinson and Chris Mars have reunited to record two new songs for an upcoming retrospective, Don’t You Know Who I Think I Was?: The Best of the Replacements. Due June 13 via Rhino, the set will feature “Message to the Boys” and “Pool & Dive,” the band’s first new recordings in 16 years.

Session drummer Josh Freese was behind the kit for the new recordings, while Mars, who in recent years has foregone music for an art career, contributed backing vocals. The songs were written by Westerberg and were recorded at producer Ed Ackerson’s Flowers studio in Minneapolis. At deadline, it is unclear if any further activity is brewing within the Replacements’ camp.”

What else does Get Outta Town Records have coming up? WELL LET ME TELL YOU!

We have worked out a deal with Chicago’s HAUNTED LIFE (members of Expired Youth) to release their full length that was originally scheduled for release on Stillborn. We will be pressing up those CDs as soon as we get the art from the band and the record for me to master.

ANOTHER YEAR is back up and running after a brief hiatus for the last few weeks. They will be recording four new songs that we will be releasing on a CD with their original and re-mastered EP. This release will also be coming out on LIMITED VINYL as a 12″ so look out for that.

As mentioned earlier, we will be worked with Embrace Records from Malaysia on a YOUTH OF TODAY tribute album that I have started getting songs for to master. This is really going to be an incredible album and features songs from bands like Weekend Nachos, Years From Now, Make or Break and Expired Youth as well as bands from around the world. This should hopefully be out in the next two months if all goes according to plan.

We still have some copies of MAKE OR BREAK’s Think About It CD and Down For Life 7″ and ON THE OUTSIDE’s Demo 7″ available for order as well as new GOT pins and stickers.

Update On The TRIPFACE Discography

Scott Jarzombek, formerly of TRIPFACE, and current editor Bystander Fanzine, and the very cool personal blog punklibrarian.org has sent out some news on the status of the upcoming TRIPFACE discography on State of Mind Recordings. Here’s the news:

“Cooper [co-owner of State of Mind] tells me that the pre orders will come with a limited Basketball Jersey.

Right now it will have the following:

- Some Part Sorrow

- Unreleased Version of the 7 inch… way fucking better recording

- Demo, including “graduation night”…which is me and some friends hitting trash cans and laughing our asses off.

And…

- 4 or 5 unreleased songs (if there is room) from way fucking back that were recorded on WUSB, Artie Philly [MILHOUSE, INDECISION, CELEBRITY MURDERERS] compared us to KRAKDOWN and early BREAKDOWN in those days. I forgot all about these songs and got pumped when I heard them.

What ever doesn’t make it will end up being a free download over at Bystander. Basically it comes down to some studio time and seeing how much will fit on a CD.

And still no reunion… sorry… will not hapen.”

- Can’t wait for this!

New 46 SHORT Full-Length Out in April

From the inbox:

“TKO Records is proud to be bringing you the latest full-length CD from Long Beach, CA’s 46 SHORT. For years this band has been hammering out their faithful, straigh ahead style of classic HC Punk in the vein of CIRCLE JERKS, BLACK FLAG and early POISON IDEA. All four members of 46 SHORT are Punk scene veterans who have devoted years of their lives playing in bands, running record stores, booking tours and promoting local shows. 46 SHORT’s dedication to HC Punk is obvious in every bashed-out drum beat, screamed lyric and brutal guitar chord on this new 13-track CD. With a circle pit-inducing sound straight outta ’82 and politically/socially conscience lyrics with their sights set on today’s issues, “Turth Denied” is destined to be a modern Hardcore/Punk classic.”

- I got ahold of this disc last week. As expected, it’s totally ripping. These guys have been perpetually underrated for years – I hope that with this being on TKO, they can turn some more heads.

RISE AGAINST finishes tracking The Sufferer and The Witness, announce guest vocals

RISE AGAINST updated their website with details of their new full length, confirmed as The Sufferer and The Witness.

“We did about fifteen songs ( i think, it’s all a blur now ) and we’re pretty excited about it. Working at The Blasting Room again has been the perfect experience and colloborating with Bill again has really brought some of our songs to life the way he brought RPM to life. We had Chad from DRAG THE RIVER/ALL and Emily from HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE sing all over the record which was awesome. Before we left, we ran into the THURSDAY guys in town and took them for some scooter rides, played each other our new stuff, and coerced them to sing some youth crew vox…”

RISE AGAINST is currently confirmed for Warped Tour.

I was made aware of the update thanks to the dudes at punknews.org.

- We already know everything that goes through the Blasting Room gets better, but adding THURSDAY, Chad from ALL and Emily from HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE to the mix only ratchets the anticipation up another few notches.

I don’t think its a stretch to call The Sufferer and the Witness by far and away one of the most anticipated in our corner of the world we call the punk scene…

THE VALLEY ARENA “Take Comfort In Strangers”

Knowing little about Long Beach, California’s, THE VALLEY ARENA besides the fact that they were the first band that THURSDAY’s Geoff Rickley signed to his brand new imprint label, Astro Magnetics (of which he is a co-owner), I was surprised to slip to this disc into my stereo and to hear a supremely well-oiled post-punk [...]

Release of the Day

JUNIPER SKY – Don’t Forget (Textbook)

- I hadn’t even heard of this band before Textbook signed them barely a week ago, but after just one listen to their upcoming full-length, I’m already a convert. These guys draw from all sorts of influences, anything from QUICKSAND to COHEED AND CAMBRIA, to AT THE DRIVE-IN, but it all works together in one very cool unpredictable jumble. Check out two mp3s here if you need to get acquainted.
