Virgin Records Shutting Down Big Stores

Somewhat old news, but non-the-less jarring. Virgin Records is closing down shop in New York City and San Francisco. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the to-be-liquidated stores are survived by only three Virgin retail outlets in the United States. In 2002, there were as many as 23 stores in the country. You can check out the write-up at the Chronicle website here. I’m less bummed about the store closing, and more upset about the lost jobs. Virgin wasn’t all that great, and I gave up paying twenty dollars for a CD years ago. But as far as their employee’s are concerned, they have my condolences. It would really suck to get laid off at a time like this.
