Release of the Day: MARATHON – S/T
This is probably one of the my all-time favorite melodic punk/hardcore records – an album released in 2005 that would have just as well tore shit up if it had come out in 1995. Not only does the music shred for 30+ minutes, but you’ll be hard pressed to find something more intelligent and heartfelt in the genre. If the now-dormant Reignition Records has one lasting bit of legacy from their 25 or so releases, I hope it is represented by what MARATHON was all about.
Such a good album! I wish they put more material out. I remember this came in about #6 on your year end list that year and AWS at #5. I wonder if you regard the 5 other albums you rated above it with the same degree of fondness…. ;-)
Jordan,
in my humble opinion– as well as that of Aaron and Mark who ran ReIgnition with me– this is the best album we ever released. The songs Courting My Soul and Closing Time at The Distortion factory as, in a word, spellbinding.
Glad you see it too. Figures this would come from Pastepunk, the phonetic version of what I tried to achieve with ReIgnition.
Anyway, the record is still for sale on all digital retsilers.
Happy hanukah!
There was a time in my life where I listened to this record four times a day. Gravity’s Temptation is the saddest song I’ve ever heard with the “go out there and live your life” message. It rules.
Someone needs to post all their stuff onto youtube.
Even better, it’s on myspace.
