Brooklyn, NY/New Jersey based punk band NIGHT BIRDS has released a track from their upcoming album The Other Side of Darkness, due out August 16 on Grave Mistake Records. The track, titled “Landfill Land”, can be streamed on their Bandcamp page alongside their latest release Fresh Kills, Vol. 1, a compilation of the band’s EPs from 2009-2011.

Formed in the spring of 2009, NIGHT BIRDS were hatched following the demise of bassist Joe Keller’s band, THE ERGS!, and guitarist Mike Hunchback’s band, HUNCHBACK. Leaving both looking for a new full time band, Joe and Mike teamed up with then PSYCHED TO DIE drummer Brian Gorsegner, who stepped out from behind the drum kit to take on vocal duties for the newly formed NIGHT BIRDS. Following the departure of original drummer Chris Mitaritondo, Ryan McHale rounded out the line-up in March of 2010.

NIGHT BIRDS have managed to remain an active live band since their inception; playing regularly in their dual hometown regions of New York / New Jersey, along with several weekend excursions to various Northeastern cities. 2010 saw NIGHT BIRDS making several trips south as well (including stops at THE FEST in Gainesville and INSUBORDINATION FEST in Baltimore), and in February of 2011 the band did a five day Northeasternern tour with Richmond, VA’s GOVERNMENT WARNING. Summer 2011 will see NIGHT BIRDS playing CHAOS IN TEJAS in Austin, TX this June, followed immediately by a two week Midwestern tour. August has the band making yet another trip south to Richmond, VA for BEST FRIENDS DAY, and in September the band will head across the Atlantic for their first European tour.
