Oakland, CA’s MACHINE HEAD are pleased to unveil their brand new music video for the single “Locust” today exclusively with Pitchfork.com. The track “Locust” is cut from the band’s latest Billboard-charting album, Unto The Locust. The video is directed by veteran MACHINE HEAD video director Mike Sloat and features motion picture-quality computer-generated imagery that includes a sinister swarm of locusts enveloping the band in a cloud of darkness and chaos, much like the ominous track itself. The incredible effects were all created by a team of veteran Hollywood CGI artists and monster makers including album art designer Paul Gerrard who all helped bring Paul’s amazing album artwork to life.

- A few video observations: (1) This is a six and half minute long video. After the first two minutes of watching people look up into the sky and see locusts coming their way, four more minutes of locust-watching-then-running gets a bit tiresome; if nobody looks to the sky, do the locusts simply not bother to invade? (2) the convincing nature of the locusts is dependent upon the angle the locusts are presented. Captured from behind and under the locust abdomen, they are quite intimidating; from the side, with their green glow? Not so much; (3) The drummer could at least flinch when’s swarmed… the dude’s good, but he’s not that good…
