1. A L’shana Tovah to our Jewish readers. In this Jewish new year, may we find peace where it has eluded us.

2. THURSDAY announced their signing to Epitaph Records on Tuesday, just a couple of week after the label inked a deal with NEW FOUND GLORY. The common element in these signings (as well last year’s acquisition of STORY OF THE YEAR) are band’s searching for a label that will give them they freedom they seek in making music, while having the music industry resources to support the recording. It sounds so simple, and yet so many bands and labels struggle to see eye-to-eye with one another. I suppose the mutual meeting of the minds easier is when you are already dealing with an established setting on both sides…

3. Speaking of NEW FOUND GLORY… this post makes some very funny observations about that band’s most recent video and FALL OUT BOY’s brand new video for their (painfully blah) single, “I Don’t Care.”

4. I hope I’m not let down by Thursday night’s Vice-Presidential debate showdown. The anticipation for verbal calamity is grand.

5. Cringe-inducing headline: “ESCAPE THE FATE Want To Annihilate Their Fans”

6. Video: WARBRINGER – “At The Crack of Doom”

Hmm… a metal band playing a warehouse with a few metal barrels positioned about with flames. Didn’t SKID ROW do something like this about 18 years ago?

7. SUICIDE NOTE are playing a bunch of shows with YOUNG WIDOWS and PELICAN. That will be a good time.

8. Sumerian Records have signed a band named FELL SILENT from the UK. I wonder if that band has ever heard the former Nevada hardcore band FALL SILENT. Anyone know whatever happened to the FALL SILENT guys? I interviewed that band in 2002 – they were one of the hardcore’s finest in their brief by polarizing existence.

9. RISE AGAINST are streaming their fifth full-length, Appeal To Reason on their MySpace page. We’ll be launching a contest in support of it on Thursday with a pretty cool slate of prizes.

10. Sure, it would have been magical of the Mets to make a big playoff run in their final of Shea Stadium, but as a fairly common dweller of that concrete house of horrors in my 28 year existence, I believe the ending was fitting for a stadium that was never completed as planned. I’ll miss my seats in the nosebleeds, close enough to lunge for the airplanes, but a clean break with the past might be just what the Mets need to achieve the success they so crave. Once again, baseball mimics life.
