BY THE GRACE OF GOD TO PLAY BENEFIT REUNION SHOW

Kentucky hardcore legends BY THE GRACE OF GOD will be playing a reunion show to benefit their friend and fellow Louisville hardcore scene staple Adele Collins on Saturday October 16th, 2004 in Louisville, KY at Headliners Music Hall. The show will also offer the first chance for fans to purchase the new BY THE GRACE OF GOD collection CD being released in November by Initial Records. COLISEUM (featuring Ryan Patterson of BLACK CROSS, THE NATIONAL ACROBAT) will be performing as well.

Collins, who has been diagnosed with a rare condition called Pseudotumor Cerebri, has been a longtime member of the Louisville hardcore family.

Having operated her self-financed zine/label I STAND ALONE for a number of years as well as promoting shows in Louisville, Collins has become both a friend and supporter of not just local bands, but bands from around the world. With mounting medical and insurance bills and her well-being, vision, and even life on the line, Collins’ friends have come together to organize the BY THE GRACE OF GOD reunion show to help her raise money.

Pseudotumor Cerebri, a condition caused by the body producing too much spinal fluid, creates extreme pressure on the brain, replicating the symptoms of having an actual brain tumor (extreme amounts of nausea and vomiting, dangerously elevated blood pressure, threat of damage to the eyes as a result of vomiting, chronic migraine headaches, etc.) Collins’ case seems atypically severe and has caused her to spend over 100 days in the hospital in the past year, not to mention the 60 emergency room visits. Unable to work from her symptoms and with her and her family’s money quickly running out, Collins needs help raising enough money to continue seeing a specialist helping her maintain and possibly cure her condition.

As for the BY THE GRACE OF GOD collection CD on Initial Records, it will be entitled “”Three Steps To A Better Democracy”" and will include ten tracks, compiling all non-Victory Records release by the band. Among the ten tracks will be the final recorded BY THE GRACE OF GOD song, the extremely rare final 1999 six song EP, vinyl only compilation tracks, and a BLACK SABBATH cover, all newly remastered. The release will also feature new artwork, packed with photography and liner notes. Although not available in stores until November, the CD will be available at the BY THE GRACE OF GOD reunion show.

- WOW!!! This whole story is crazy on so many fronts. First, I wish Adele Collins much luck in recovery from her illness – I remember reading I STAND ALONE in high school and finding it to be one of the most resourceful, honest, hardcore oriented zines in existence. It managed to float above so much of the bullshit and get to the center of what it was like to be a part of the hardcore youth culture at a time before being commercially appealing was even a viable option. Second – BY THE GRACE OF GOD!!!! I know, I know, “”settle down fanboy,”" but years ago, this band was easily one of the most important acts going, and their discography is a must own. I can’t wait for this collection!
