Stream: FACE REALITY – “S/T” EP

- (1) Released just a few weeks ago on Youngblood Records; (2) Musically, they remind me of FLOORPUNCH, but the vocals seem unduly harsh, and almost unnatural. Maybe the dude just needs to need cough…

Jump Start Records (And Friends) Post New Free Sampler

From the inbox:

Keeping with a new tradition we started here at Jump Start last year at Christmas time, we’ve again got an awesome gift for everyone out there as a special token of our appreciation for all your support over the past 12 months.

We haven’t put out a label sampler in nine years, so what better way to ring in the holiday and the New Year with another volume of our “2 Sugar Sampler” series? The lastest edition has 28 tracks from your favorite Jump Start bands as well as a few friends that we think you should check out that we’ve thrown into the mix. Volume 3 includes brand new and/or previously unreleased material from Crucial Dudes, Broadcaster, All Eyes West, Astpai, One Win Choice, Noise By Numbers, Aspiga, and Hisdayhascome. We’ve also got some brand new tracks from Horace Pinker, who will be releasing their latest CD and LP, Local State Enertia, on Jump Start this May! Our good friends from The Anchor Boys, who released a great record this year on Panic Records, are joined by new label friends Kill Lincoln, who play infectious horn driven punk-ska and self-released their latest effort, You Were There, this year as well.

You can download the entire 28 song compilation for FREE over on our Bandcamp page right now.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas! Please consider spending some of your holiday spoils on the many independent music labels and related companies that we cover day in and day out. In the spirit of positive holiday vibes, I offer up a video of IGNITE’s “Embrace”.

Video: CALIBAN – “Memorial”

- Is CALIBAN dressed in corpse paint? Dressed as zombies? Dressed as zombies in corpse paint? I am so confused…

Stream: PLACEHOLDER – “Nothing Is Pure”

From the inbox:

The debut album from PLACEHOLDER (MD/PA), entitled Nothing Is Pure, is available now on Better Days Records (Handguns, Stickup Kid, Latin For Truth). The band will be heading out on a 3 week long full US tour starting December 26th in Kent, Ohio.

Placeholder originally formed under the moniker Coastal in March 2011. After playing together in various bands in the past, the quartet quickly bonded and began writing/recording. The band’s first demo/EP, Demonstration, was released just two months later in May of 2011. Placeholder entered the studio in September of 2011 to record their debut full-length for Better Days. Playing emotionally intense post-hardcore, Placeholder make a giant splash on their proper debut. Delivering on the promise of their earlier demo, the band strikes a chord with their heavy and melodic brand of songwriting. Nothing Is Pure echoes modern bands such as BALANCE & COMPOSURE and POLAR BEAR CLUB while paying homage to their past influences. Mature, focused and full of determination, Placeholder leave quite the first impression with Nothing Is Pure.

- (1) Solid songs, though the vocals could use a little more ‘ooomph’; (2) That’s two worthy full-lengths in a row from Better Days, the new LATIN FOR TRUTH has been a grower…

Stream: POLICE & THIEVES – “Fracturing”

DC area hardcore mainstays POLICE & THIEVES have a brand new seven song release on their hands, titled Fracturing (Youngblood Records). The group continues to maintain a youth crew influence to their sound while continuing to build great melodic elements into their songs (think BATTERY meets DAG NASTY).
