OLD MAN MARKLEY 7″ Out Now

For Better, For Worse, the two song 7″ from Fat Wreck bluegrass heroes OLD MAN MARKLEY hit stores yesterday. Generously, Fat has posted a free download of the title track here. The b-side to the 7″ is a cover of SCREECHING WEASEL’s classic “The Science of Myth”.

MADBALL – “Empire”

If we’re being honest with ourselves, it is much more likely that you’ll find me in a meeting with a Fidelity financial advisor, discussing college payment and retirement planning than sporting a MADBALL longsleeve and discoursing on the finer points of holding it down, standing ground, and commanding respect. But that’s never been an obstacle [...]

CEREMONY on BBC Radio

From the inbox:

During their recent UK/European tour, CEREMONY did a 4-song performance and interview for BBC Radio 1′s The Punk Show with Mike Davies. The show will be streaming online all this week at www.bbc.co.uk – check it out now! Also be sure to catch Ceremony at Scion’s free concert series at The Roxy in West Hollywood alongside INTEGRITY and PULLING TEETH on November 13th – tickets are available via RSVP only at www.scionav.com/metalshow.

- I hope that part of the Scion free concert series requires all bands playing to ride around their respective towns while crammed into a Scion xB and to see how much band gear they can fit into one of those things. For INTEGRITY, the vehicle should be neon pink with a giant Hello Kitty logo plastered on to the hood…

MAKE DO AND MEND Streaming “End Measured Mile”

MAKE DO AND MEND’s full-length debut, End Measured Mile, is available today through Panic/Paper + Plastick Records. AbsolutePunk is streaming the album in it’s entirety, which fans can check out here. In the past couple of years the band has released several EPs and splits, with their breakout being the EP Bodies of Water.

- Anyone else feel like the “midwestern power-emo” of the late 90s in making a big comeback now? The Initial Records and Doghouse Records of the late 90s would have been frothing over a release like this. Loving it.

Entitled Hollow Realm, the vinyl will see an official release on November 23rd via Topshelf. The release marks the US label’s first release from a UK band. First pressing of the vinyl is 500 (100 Black – Tour Exclusive, 150 Solid White, and 250 Clear.). British imprint Big Scary Monsters will be releasing the CD on November 15th.

There is an exclusive UK vinyl pre-order through Banquet Records.

You can stream the first single, “Peter Pan”, on the band’s MySpace now!

TALONS are an instrumental six-piece, who call the backwater town of Hereford their home. Forging the explosive energy of hardcore, the subtleties of post-rock and the complexities associated with math-rock, Talons possess a fascinating sense of urgency and drive, with a sound that both soothes and savages in equal measure. Comprised of eight brand new tracks, Hollow Realm was written as a single piece of music and combines all the elements we’ve come to love from Talons; the beautiful highs, the crushing lows and of course, the massive riffs.

- Gripping stuff. Kind of makes me wonder how much more insane it would be with some commanding vocals…
