Fat Wreck Sells Rare Vinyl For Haiti Relief

From the inbox:

We here at Fat, like so many others, are trying to do our part to help raise money for Haiti. That being said, we’ve dug up some of our rarest, most limited, and closest to out of print releases and collectibles and we’re making them available to you. But not for free. By purchasing any of these you’re doing your part and helping us do ours. ALL the proceeds from these purchases will go directly to Partners In Health to help provide relief to Haiti and its people. If for some weird reason you’re not into rare NOFX vinyl and would rather just donate directly to PIH, you can do that too by going here. The quantities of some of these releases are super limited, so check out what we’re offering and jump on it, cause what we have left is gonna go quick! In these times, what better way to spend your hard earned cash, get some awesome stuff and help those in need. It’s a win/win. Check back soon as we hope to add additional items.

A WILHELM SCREAM – “S/T” EP

A WILHELM SCREAM’s self-titled record is odd for me. Their previous release, Career Suicide is currently embroiled in a cold war with another disc for my favorite record from the last decade and so therefore, any follow-up for me has sky high expectations. It’s not produced and overlooked by Bill “Everything I Produce Is Visibly Improved” [...]

New Music First Impressions

1. RHINOCEROS – They Are Coming For Me (Eulogy): One of the best Eulogy releases in some time; ultra heavy hardcore with sharp songwriting and a sense of momentum. Reminds me of a bit of FLOORPUNCH and TERROR, but with a little bit of ONE KING DOWN’s drawn out bombast. The band name seems a bit silly given the gravity of the songs, but it’s memorable and captures the heft in the band’s sound.

2. DOWN TO EARTH – Prisms (Deep Elm): French trio with a big emphasis on noisy guitars and angular rhythms. I’m getting a little tired of band’s doing the angular thing, but I thought of ENGINE DOWN when listening to this and that’s only a good thing.

3. STORY OF THE YEAR – The Constant (Epitaph): There’s not another band out there that has perfected the art of “bounce up and down core” like these guys. I know that makes the music sound like it is mindless – and it’s definitely not, but for all four STORY OF THE YEAR full-lengths, my takeaway has always been a big ol’ blast of fun-time loudness, and I’m totally OK with that. Better to be consistent in doing your own thing than trying to fit into someone’s else’s skin.

4. AFTER THE FALL – Collar City (Mightier than Sword): It’s only three songs in about six minutes, but the band’s adrenaline shot of melodic hardcore does not waste a second of it. I’m still not sure I see the point of such a short release, and if not for the chance to buy it on eMusic (for what comes out to about 90 cents total), I wouldn’t have spent money on it. If anyone remembers the New Jersey band HECKLE and was into that “East Coast fury meets West Coast melody”, these songs and band’s 2009 full-length, Fort Orange, are a must listen.

THE WONDER YEARS – “The Upsides”

One of the more gratifying parts of doing Pastepunk for so long is watching bands basically made up of kids mature into young adults, and actually make something of the incredible opportunities they have been afforded. THE WONDER YEARS have been under a bit of a microscope since their 2007 full-length, Get Stoked On It, [...]

NATIVE Streaming “Wrestling Moves” Full-Length

Indiana post-punk/hardcore band NATIVE have their new full-length, Wrestling Moves, streaming in its entirety on the band’s Bandcamp page. AT THE DRIVE-IN, FUGAZI, and LA DISPUTE comparisons have run wild over the band, and it’s not hard to figure out why. The album was formally released this week via Sargent House.

EVERGREEN TERRACE Covers FOO FIGHTERS

Never a band to shy away from covers, melodic hardcore/metal band EVERGREEN TERRACE have posted a cover of the FOO FIGHTERS well-known single “Everlong,” on their MySpace page. Outside of this stream, the band has not put out any information on where this song might see an official release. EVERGREEN TERRACE are currently touring in support of their 2009 full-length Almost Home (Metal Blade).
