Spotlight On: JOYFUL SOUNDS

Former members of HELLFIRE TRIGGER (New Age Records) have landed in JOYFUL SOUNDS, an energetic 80s-influenced hardcore band. Circle-pit action and finger-pointing shout-alongs are guaranteed. Head on over to their MySpace page and listen some new demo songs. If you have to choose just one, “Wasted Life” is the best of the litter.

Trustkill Inks TOO PURE TO DIE

From the inbox:

Trustkill Records has announced the signing of TOO PURE TO DIE to their family of artists. The Des Moines based band has been building up momentum over the past few years including their full-length release Confidence And Consequence (Sumerian Records, 2006). The band has also been touring non-stop over the past year with full U.S. and Canadian runs alongside such bands at August Burns Red, Misery Signals, Sworn Enemy, Caliban, Kataklysm and The Acacia Strain. They are about to start another full U.S. run with All That Remains this Sept running through October. Since the band released Confidence And Consequence they have added Paul Zurlo (previously of Beyond All Reason) on vocals. The band is rounded out by Jordan Peterson (guitar) Chris Towning (bass), Zach Johnson (guitar) and Kyle Rossi (drums).

Speaking on the signing to Trustkill, Peterson proclaims “When I started this band one of my original goals was to be on Trustkill, I don’t think we could make a better move than by joining forces.”¬ù Trustkill President, Josh Grabelle echoes the sentiments by saying “There are some bands that get together and expect the world handed to them on a silver platter. Not Too Pure To Die. These guys get out there and DO what other bands TALK about doing, they’re running circles around most bands. I went and saw them play live with new singer Paul and was floored, they killed it. We are super excited to see what the future holds for TPTD!” Currently the band is holed up in the recording studio working on re-recording Confidence And Consequence with new vocals from Paul and a previously unreleased track. The label aims to release the new version at the end of November. Too Pure To Die are also working on new material for their next album to surface in Summer 2008.

Issue Oriented Vol. 23 Out Now

From the inbox:

EPISODE 23 – Host Ronen Kauffman talks to BEN WEASEL about going digital, his new solo work and more; and to independent film maker ERIK X. RAJ (NJFilmcore.com) about hardcore, movies, and hardcore movies (not the porn kind). Listen at myspace.com/issueoriented.

- Digital or not, the new Ben Weasel full-length is fantastic.

DEAD HEARTS “Bitter Verses”

The linear hardcore album is an organism on its way out. Many of today’s premier bands have no patience for writing an album where the only elements of differentiation are where the breakdowns are placed. Albums like HOPE CONSPIRACY’s Endnote and last year’s Witness from MODERN LIFE IS WAR have become the bedrock of a [...]

ONE SMALL STEP FOR LANDMINES and LOOK MEXICO On Tour

From the inbox:

ONE SMALL STEP FOR LANDMINES has joined up with friends and fellow Tallahasseeans LOOK MEXICO for a three week tour of the Midwest and East Coast. The band’s debut full-length will see a September 11th release from Civil Defense League, the Doghouse imprint created by SPARTA front man Jim Ward.

One Small Step For Landmines has a nifty habit of cranking out angular-yet-driving guitars lines and unforgettable melodies, building massively catchy songs around jazzy, rapid-fire drums and a propulsive bass line. This Florida three piece is dynamically compelling as they are unpredictable and explosive.

Of course, don’t forget about the Look Mexico kids either; they’ve pretty much made a home for themselves on the road this summer. The band’s debut full-length This Is Animal Music was released by Lujo Records on July 10th.

- “Civil Defense League, the Doghouse imprint created by SPARTA front man Jim Ward” — when did that happen?

- I just got back from this show (seriously) and while I could only stay for one LOOK MEXICO song (curse you, early flights to college!) both groups sounded like they were playing their hearts out and sounding fairly awesome. Absolutely worth going to see if they’re in your town.

Epitaph’s latest pop-punk critters FAREWELL have premiered the song “First On The Blog,” on their MySpace page. The tune is from their upcoming Epitaph debut Isn’t This Supposed To Be Fun?

- Remember when people would slag Epitaph’s poppy bands as Epitaffy? Hmmm…
