Deep Elm Nabs DARTZ!

From the inbox:

Deep Elm Records is pleased to announce that it will be releasing This Is My Ship from DARTZ! in North America and Japan. This Teesside, UK trio’s critically-acclaimed debut full-length was released by X-tra Mile Recordings Ltd. earlier this year.

Legend has it that DARTZ! started as a joke when a guitarist and drummer decided to switch instruments. Two years, tons of DIY touring, a few EP and split vinyl releases, and one knock-down amazing debut later…no one is laughing now. This Is My Ship keeps an animated, lively pace throughout its twelve terrific tracks. Songs like “Teaching Me To Dance” should give you an idea of which propulsive, Q AND NOT U-esque school of indie rock these boys attend, but pigeonholing DARTZ! as anything other than an extremely intelligent, complex and exciting band would be doing them an injustice.

You can check out the video for DARTZ! first single “Once, Twice, Again!” here.

Second Post from the New Duder

On Sunday night, Good Riddance, a band beloved by our editor Jordan and certainly by me, called it. And I was there.

They played their final show to a hometown crowd in Santa Cruz, CA, packed so tightly I’m sure the fire marshall would have wagged his finger if he could have found room for it. The normally fascistic Catalyst security let people stand on chairs in the mezzanine, allowing every Santa Cruzan to see their arguably most famous band play their last songs. The set was terribly comprehensive, showcasing songs from every album, including split EP’s and pre-Fat material.

In short, it was amazing, and I will have a more detailed write-up of it, as well as an interview with lead singer Russ Rankin, in the coming weeks.

BETRAYED “Substance”

Equal Vision may no longer be a mecca for hardcore, but whenever the label, in its current state, decides to dabble in the genre, you know that quality is going to be at 110 percent. BETRAYED formed a little more than a year ago with members from both CHAMPION and CARRY ON, two undeniably influential [...]

LADYBIRDS Announce Debut Album; Contributions From Max Bemis, Matt Pryor, More

From the press release bin:

What do GYM CLASS HEROES‚Äô Tyler Pursel, SAY ANYTHING‚Äôs Max Bemis, and THE GET UP KIDS‚Äô Matt Pryor have in common? Well, apart from playing in a handful of this nation‚Äôs finest pop bands, those performers, along with Justin Johnson from Philly area band THE DANGER O’S and Neil Sabatino from Jersey-based band FAIRMONT, all play on LADYBIRDS’ debut LP, Regional Community Theater.

The project Рto put out a record of glitched up dance pop guested on by his friends Рwas the brainchild of Pursel’s. Everyone was excited to be involved, the songs were laid out, but then something happened; the record, initially conceived as more of mix-and-match project, found a frontwoman in New Jersey-bred fireball Teeter Sperber, former lead singer of the little known yet sort of well-liked LEY ROYAL SCAM.

The album will be out on September 4th through Creep Record. An MP3 of the song “The Brown And Red Divide” can be heard here.

Photogenic: Lifetime

LIFETIME played a “secret” basement show in New Brunswick, NJ today. Seriously? Seriously. With the combination of sweaty dudes, huge smiles from everyone in attendance, Fall Out Boy jokes, and Dan Yemin making crazy faces while playing guitar, the group tore through their back catalog while playing three new tracks from their latest self-titled album. If you missed it or simply didn’t know about the show, I’m so sorry, since you truly missed out on something special.

More photos of LIFETIME, as well as opening acts PISSCHRIST and SEASICK can be found here.

Stay tuned for a special “Photogenic” feature coming soon, simply titled, “The Many Faces of Dan Yemin”.

ALKALINE TRIO Lands With Epic

According to the Org, ALKALINE TRIO has signed with Epic Records after V2, the label they signed with last year but never released a record with, shut down at the beginning of this year. No word on when the band’s debut disc for Epic will see the light of day.

- Intentional or coincidence that ALKALINE TRIO news of this magnitude is announced on today’s holiday, of all holidays?
