A Trio of New Songs From THE ESOTERIC

Kansas’ THE ESOTERIC have made available three new songs from their upcoming full-length Subverter, their second for Prosthetic Records. The five piece has brought in a large atmospheric guitar influence to their normally tech-intense metalcore sound. The first song posted, “Don’t Waste Guts,” exemplifies the band’s progression. Check out the tunes on their pureVOLUME page and look for the album’s release on October 17th.

Eyeball Records Discusses Banned Books Week

The Eyeball Records newsletter has this interesting point in their sorta-weekly mailout:

“This week is Banned Books Week. The annual event reminds Americans not to take for granted the precious freedoms of the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United Sates. After centuries of censorship for every conceivable reason, The American Library Association ‘celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one‚Äôs opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints to all who wish to read them.’ This expression holds true beyond the traditional printed medium and we encourage you to not only enjoy the words but the rest of the sights and sounds associated with free expression.”

- Always a great point worth stressing. My mom was a librarian for nearly 30 years and never strayed from the anti-censorship spirit of the ALA (Hi Mom!).
