In a fairly short period of time, Indianola Records has put out a good deal of records. BLESSING THE HOGS Set Release Date For The Twelve Gauge Solution

From the inbox:

Inhuman. Merciless. Uncompromising. San Francisco’s heaviest return with their sophomore album, The Twelve Gauge Solution. Often praised for their original and uneasily characterized sound, BLESSING THE HOGS forge a style of heavy music all their own. Punishing vo-kills, rapid fire drums and dropped tuned fucking mayhem Рall the key ingredients that BLESSING THE HOGS are known for Рshow up in spades this time around.

Featuring Billy Anderson (the studio wizard who has worked with the like of MELVINS, MR. BUNGLE, BRUTAL TRUTH, HIGH ON FIRE, FANTOMAS, KISS IT GOODBYE, NEUROSIS, EYEHATEGOD, UNSANE, SICK OF IT ALL and many more) in their lineup, BLESSING THE HOGS show no sign of relenting on their musical quest.

Recorded by Billy at Take Root Studios, San Francisco and Oakland’s Shark Bite Studios, mixed at Trax East by Eric Rachel and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, The Twelve Gauge Solution features eleven new songs. Also included are two covers (Quicksand’s “Fazer” and the Melvins’ “Hogleg”) featuring guest lead vocals by Sean Ingram (ex-COALESCE) that must be heard to be believed.

Twelve Gauge Solution will be released on July 26.

- “”Punishing vo-kills”" hee hee…

Bridge 9 Announces Signing of NO TURNING BACK; Six-Song Release out in September

From Bridge9.com:

No Turning Back is a well-known name in the European hardcore scene, and are building a substantial reputation all over the world. In 8 years, this Dutch 5-some have recorded 3 minis, a split cd and 2 full-lengths, and are now presenting their new MCD Rise From The Ashes on Reflections Records and Bridge Nine Records.

Starting out in 1997 as five 16-year old kids that wanted to play the music that their NYHC heroes had played in the early days of hardcore, No Turning Back gradually evolved to playing a unique style that is still mostly influenced by the original NY hardcore sound. Fast breaks, grooving riffs and massive singalongs accompany the personal and tortured lyrics, what proved to move crowds on virtually every show this band has played.

After releasing a demo and two mini CDs (The Beautiful Lies / The Horrible Truth) on their own, GSR Music was the first to bring these kids into the studio for their first full-length called Revenge is a Right in 2003. This record got things going for No Turning Back, and they toured Europe for the first time. In fall 2003, after they returned from recording 4 exclusive songs, of which a Breakdown cover, Reflections Records was eager to release it as a split CD / 7” with The Deal (pre- Rise and Fall) from Belgium. In the meanwhile, the second full length on GSR was on the way: Damage Done. Sporting a top-notch production, the fast and grooving songs on Damage Done were the spark that set a big audience on fire for these guys. After trading in three original bandmembers for a more steady line-up early 2005, No Turning Back have immediately recorded 6 brand new songs, that will be released by Bridge Nine Records on September 20. The MCD called Rise From The Ashes will also feature remastered versions of the split-songs that were recorded in 2002. The European release will be taken care of by Reflections Records.

To promote the new release No Turning Back has scheduled tours for Summer, Fall and Winter 2005 and will be embarking their first US tour July 2005.

New York Times’ Jon Pareles on Grokster

The New York Times’ Jon Pareles weighs in with an eloquent column about the real world implications of the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Grokster. It’s a short read, check it out here.

The court found that the file-sharing companies Grokster and Streamcast could be sued for copyright infringement because they offered marketing and technical advice that clearly induced their customers to share files illegally, so the companies could attract larger numbers of users and thus more advertising.

The court did not give the movie and recording businesses much ammunition to attack the Robin Hoods of the Internet: those software geeks and culture fans who really just want to share. They are online right now building Web sites that don’t make a dime and spending hours writing and editing “”mp3 blogs”" – Web page collections of downloadable songs. They hook people up, basically because they can and because people want access to art.
