Kevin, you should be happy to lose that bet…

I am really, really thrilled. I thought Evan was going to pick the snake in the grass, so just him picking the right girl was enough to make me happy.

MAD CADDIES “The Holiday Has Been Cancelled EP”

This ep was definitely a pleasant surprise. I’ve never been a big fan of the MAD CADDIES primarily because of their “circus” ska/punk style. Whenever I heard a song of theirs, for some reason, I felt that I belonged at a carnival. The new ep changes all that. The Caddies drop a bit of silliness [...]

2) fact #1 has led to me completing all of my homework for the next two weeks of class
3) fact #2 does not then allow me to go out and "party" due largely in part to fact #1
Jordan owes me dinner.

MADBALL “Hold It Down”

I really don’t like macho postering in hardcore, and especially the whole East Coast Hardcore crew like mentality – so if you could subtract all those elements from this album, and just leave the music, it’s pretty darn good. It lacks creativity, it reeks of stupid lyrics, and it is everything that a fan would [...]

News from the (mid)Western Front

We currently have about 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. It's only getting deeper as time goes on, and we are supposed to gain another 6-8" tonite. I am pretty stoked about this, and helped lead an epic journey across campus, over a river, and through some woods in said snow. It was amazingly fun. However, because nearly every professor lives in our small quaint town, school has only been called off 3 times in the history of this school. Pretty insane.

However, this snow may (definitely) put a major crimp in plans to go see NUFAN down in the 'Natty. As much as I'd like to take my life into my own hands, I'm just not feeling it. Too bad, cause they are a great show.

In other news, I feel the need to tell everyone out there in TV land that I will be following around my favorite band ever for spring break. Their tour coincides with my last ever leave of absence from my beloved hill of liberal arts learning. So if you see me at the shows (if you're there), say hello, because I'll probably be looking for a place to crash and will force myself upon you.

That's all for now. I finally got a copy of "Dear You" by Jawbreaker. Now I understand what all the fuss is about.

Observations from the snowed in kiddie pool…

1) I find it amazing the level of "news panic" for 2-3 inches of snow in the DC area is approximately the same when we get a storm that's about to drop 1 to 2 feet. Time to get the sled dogs in motion…

2) Some good stuff became available recently, including FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER's "How To Start A Fire," THE GOODWILL's "That Was A Moment," and the new BOUNCING SOULS Double DVD set. I haven't actually seen the last of those yet, but I look forward to getting it soon.

3) Subscribe to emusic.com! I had been procrastinating about this for months, but I finally signed for the $9.99 a month plan, and it's great! There's so much great stuff on Emusic, especially back-catalog material. Totally worth it!

4) Expect a new STRIKE ANYWHERE album this Fall on Jade Tree. Woooo! Speaking of Jade Tree – the t-shirts in their online store are of excellent quality. I recommend them.

5) Leon is still wearing a pink ribbon from Valentine's Day. He is not enthused.

6) There's a snow drift outside my window that has to be close to three feet by now. This could get really interesting.

7) CLOSER THAN KIN, from Boston, just released their debut full-length, "The Machineries of Breath," on Punkuation Records (Available at revhq.com). This band/disc flat our rules – some of the best metal/hardcore/thrash I've ever heard. If you can imagine bands like UNEARTH, HATEBREED, AFI, and THE MISFITS all rolled up into one ball, this is the result. Look for a review of their disc, and an interview too in the near future. ctk508.com
