WOLFMOTHER “Wolfmother”

From the opening howl to the closing push of the organ keys, WOLFMOTHER’s self-titled full length debut is filled with in your face classic-rock throwbacks. Drawing hugely from their influences of bands such as LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH, and Australian comrades AC/DC among others, WOLFMOTHER refine and update the sound with something these bands never had, crystal-clear production. With a huge overall audial dynamic, all volume knobs must be set to eleven when taking in the rock and roll on this one. Stripped to their core, WOLFMOTHER has the vigor of a true classic rock band basing their sound around guitars, drums and Hammond organs. However, a vast array of instrumentation is used in throughout the record with strings, acoustic guitars and even a very-rocking flute solo on “Witchcraft.” While sounding mostly like a mix between the timeless vocals of Robert Plant and the newer breed sound of Jack White, singer Andrew Stockdale does his best impression of the latter on mid-album ballad “Mind’s Eye.” L With the declaration of “rock is back” being a theme of this decade it may be a new band that has taken the lead. WOLFMOTHER connects the old with the new, combining elements of the music our parents loved with a sound that is refreshing today. After hearing the record my friend Matt had this to say, “play that shit loud and play that shit right.” I could not have said it better myself; let this one give you some rock and roll nostalgia.
