I’m beginning to get the impression that Indecision Records is starting to stray even further to the heavier side of the hardcore/metal spectrum. Like their labelmates BLEEDING THROUGH, this band absolutely pummels the listener with a well executed combination of shredding guitars, gruff, growly vocals, and a decidedly unorthodox method in songwriting. No two songs on “There Is No Turning Back” sound the same – some are set back to a lengthy intro of winding guitars building up a tune’s leverage for a massive breakdown, and others just push hard from the start. A stunning rush of back-up vocals can take an already pulsating WELCOME TO YOUR LIFE song and turn it up a notch. Stellar, personal, reflective lyrics carry this release forward, especially on the title track, where questions of certainty, risk, and the decisions we chose to make are all thrown against the wall. I’m not even sure how to compare this band to a contemporary, but I think SKYCAMEFALLING would be a decent place to start. The artwork with this release is gorgeous, lush with bright mix intricately woven together – it actually reminds me a lot of the first CAVE IN cd, which too would be an appropriate sound marker. All I know is that every time I play this, I found myself clutching the lyric booklet while running around my room screaming each word and letting the music run its course. Bring on the mosh.
