Various Artists “How We Rock”
I don’t think this release could have come out at a better time. With such bands as THE STROKES, THE HIVES (on this comp), THE VINES, THE DONNAS (on this comp), and so forth getting some pretty massive mainstream attention, “How We Rock” truly lives up to it’s name, and purports to shoot all weak imitators down in a blazing glory. There’s 19 of “Rock’s” finest on here and trust me, this is one wild and fun ride. Most of the tunes are previously released, but if you’re like me, and not too keen on all of the recent releases from the featured bands, this is a great primer. Bands include: TURBONEGRO (Europe’s now legendary act – grew on me like GUNS N ROSES!), ZEKE (hard-fast-loud), THE HIVES (best band to hit mainstream radio in ages!), NEW BOMB TURKS, DWARVES, THE PEEPSHOWS, THE DONNAS (“40 Boys in 40 Nights” is soon to be a timeless classic), THE HELLACOPTERS (these guys deserve to be huge), THE INTERNATION NOISE CONSPIRACY (excellent choice in “Up For Sale”), PUFFBALL, DIVISION OF LAURA LEE (bound to break internationally – strong stuff), SUPERSUCKERS, ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN (“NY Knights” – only song I didn’t really care for on here), SAHARA HOTNIGHTS (Sweden’s answer to THE DONNAS), ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT (woo-hoo!), GLUCIFER, RANDY, GOTOHELLS, and DANKO JONES. In addition to all around aural assault, the packaging is very snazzy and pleasant on the eyes. Although there’s plenty of “big names” on here to help move units, the abundance of quality songs really makes this a keeper.
