UNDER A DYING SUN “S/T”

This is a pretty cool release all the way around, especially in the artwork. UNDER A DYING SUN play a fairly captivating mix of mid-paced emocore that sounds like it’s been heavily infiltrated by PEARL JAM’s, Eddie Vedder, which as you might imagine, adds for some weird vocal moments. The only thing holding this release back is the iffy production, which is unfortunate because it drains a good deal of energy from the music. The lyrics are very much in-depth, artistic, and appear to be laden with all sorts of tucked in meanings and references to revered works of literature. A few of the tracks feature some additional female vocals, and given the already layered sound this band that carries, the dual vocals are pretty sweet. The eighth track, “Chosen Words For a Funeral” leaps out as the standout to me, but overall, the musical atmosphere is well balanced. I’m not too sure where I can find a decent comparison, but I’d say very early HOT MUSIC MUSIC probably wouldn’t be off the mark. Indeed, this band is playing an older sound that’s mostly thrived in smaller scenes around the country and not so much on the bigger labels. For those who seek to be intrigued, UNDER A DYING SUN may be a good place to start.
