TRIPLE THREAT “A New Chapter EP”
Featuring former members of MOUTHPIECE, HANDS TIED, SUPRESSION SWING, THE KILLING FLAME, and THE FIRST STEP, among others, TRIPLE THREAT are by-the-book, classic hardcore, with touches of west-coast chaos, against the familiar backdrop of east-coast youth-crew. A New Chapter blasts its way through six tracks in just a shade over 10 minutes, nailing pile-on material in “Our Day,” discordant rhythms on “Break It,” and hitting intense sing-along terrain on “You Had A Choice,” the best song of the release. Things are knitted together on the sixth track, a cover of BLACK FLAG’s “Fix Me.” And for the sake of sticking with this EP’s old-school theme, BOLD’s Matt Warnke contributes guest vocals on the second tune, “Obsession.” A New Chapter is hardly a pot of gold in terms of originality, or even memorability, but the music, energy, and commotion that is brought out through each track is unmistakably gritty straight-edge hardcore. I’m sure the vinyl collectors are going to have a field day with this one…
