THE REUNION SHOW “The Motion EP”

Somehow I just don’t understand how someone in the epic Long Island ska/punk act EDNA’s GOLDFISH could end up in a poppy, keyboard-rock type band as THE REUNION SHOW, but it’s happened, and the end result is pretty cool. Normally, this mid-paced stuff is not my number one choice of style, but there’s a lot of energy going on with THE REUNION SHOW, and their sound is fairly tight. Keyboards have the ability to piss me off incredibly, but not so here, which is an achievement, no doubt. I suppose the reason why this works so well is that there is great balance between all potentially dominating factors in the sound. The vocals are smooth, almost “hip” in spirit, and the guitars are buzzy, but poetic. My only complain is the title to the song, “New Rock Revolution,” which just seems horribly cheesey – at the least the song makes up for it in having a fun vibe. This six song EP (more than 24 minutes long), isn’t going to light fires like some of the hardcore I’ve normally got jamming, but it’s an interesting swirl of energy that goes down easy and keeps you curious for more.
