THE FAUX “S/T EP”

Tarantulas, the label started by THE EXPLOSION has started off with two fairly crankin’ releases – a limited edition EP by the uber-rocking, THE BRONX (whose new full-length on Ferret is rrrrrrocking), and this six song EP by THE FAUX. Aptly described as a band with a punk rock core, corrupted by a new wave synth and searing female vocals, THE FAUX are a raspy, stinging act that’s under no shortage of energy. All of the six songs on here combine dark, haunting vibes with an abundance of distorted guitar firepower, and no visible stab at formality or precision. As sloppy as the band sounds, it’s this reckless credit that takes all 18 minutes of music and transposes it into a mighty wave of ferocity. The scattered design of the songwriting makes repeat listens tougher than ordinary however, but the smary propulsion of THE FAUX’ attack is pretty nifty for a while and this EP retains its vitality end-to-end as opposed to the underachieving tunes from the overhyped, YEAH! YEAH! YEAHS! disc, “Fever to Tell.”
