THE CURSE “S/T EP”

I really like Hellbent Records – they aren’t the most prolific label, but everything they put out contains such unbridled enthusiasm, you just know that both the band and the label couldn’t be more excited to deliver their products to the world at-large. It’s even better to report that this label has one of the most explosive EPs I’ve heard stemming from this band, which contains a former member of KID DYNAMITE. Building upon that influence, and adding ample doses of TRIAL BY FIRE, and vocals akin to a heavier HOT WATER MUSIC, you have one melting-pot of tonic that surely is combustible. Six songs get slashed about in barely nine minutes, leaving the listener breathless and agonizing for more. Lyrically, THE CURSE aren’t overtly political as to take to the task of sloganeering, but songs like “Benson and Hedges,” and “Rankers and Rotters,” do not leave rosy impressions in their remains. If the buzz on this band builds as quick as these guides craft momentum in their songs, then I can’t help but see a bigger label come in and swoop these guys up fast.
