THE BLUEPRINT “Phenomenology”

One of Great Britain’s best kept secrets is the post-hardcore band by the name of THE BLUEPRINT. They gained a limited popularity with their most popular song, “Sans Chorus”, from their EP entitled Ecliptic. Their newest release, Phenomenology, can only be found in Britain, on Golf Records, so if you’re from North America, it’s import time, baby, because this album is definitely worth the pickup. I wish North American labels would take notice of THE BLUEPRINT and get their material out here for easier access. I eagerly await more music from this band, because they are quite fun to listen to. Karl Middleton’s unique sounding vocals are some of the most pleasing that I’ve ever heard. Not only are his screams quite pleasant in feeding my hardcore side, but his natural singing vocals are incredibly stunning. Karl takes his vocal skills even further by using his range and his different styles of singing to create his own backup vocals. One example of this would be in track five, “El Miedo”, where Karl chants “whoa” in an almost echoing manner. Karl is one of my favorite vocalists of all time, and he certainly deserves credit for the work he’s done with THE BLUEPRINT. Phenomenology is an all around great album. The guitars and drums are all well performed and the vocals are impressive. These songs can range from being heavy to being poppy, giving us a full range of the post-hardcore sound. A lot of the songs are definitely foot tapping tunes. Nothing from this album will make you breakout a dance, but there’s definitely a lot of sing along material there for you to be satisfied physically. This album is so catchy and emotional, and it’s really a well performed, well written album. THE BLUEPRINT are definitely progressing as a band and I certainly hope to hear more from them in the not too distant future. For now, North American labels, take notice.
