SOCRATIC “It’s Getting Late”

Another melodic emo/pop punk band from New Jersey, proving my hypothesis that these bands wash up on the Jersey shore from some mystical island in the middle of the Atlantic that I like to call PoppyEmoArchipelago (honestly, how many of these guys are there?). Still, SOCRATIC’s “It’s Getting Late” is a very solid 6-song release from an up and coming 4 piece. There isn’t anything here that will blow your mind, same old voices and power chords that you could hear from…well, most bands coming out of Jersey, but they do it well and their sound doesn’t come of as forced. While no particular track stands out as single material, there are no songs that will force you to reach for the skip button the moment they come on. SOCRATIC scores some bonus points by not screaming at all during the course of the album. Like label mates THE BANK ROBBERS, SOCRATIC is good enough to catch some attention but won’t stand out from the pack. Judging from their pictures, these guys are young, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that have a good future ahead of them. At this point in their music careers they just seem to be having fun, and that’s all I can really ask from some young Jersey pop punkers.
