SKYCAMEFALLING “10.21″

Reviewing a metalcore disc is never an easy task, especially when there is considerably more hardcore than metal. SKYCAMEFALLING come close to crossing that line of undescribable – all I know is that it’s heavy, surging, poweful, and downright stomping on a few tracks, and after listening to all 63 minutes of music, I’m left breathless each and every time. Not every song is quite the thriller, but for the ones that are, it makes “10.21″ an essential edition to your collection. The album starts off with “With Paper Wings,” an ominous track that sets the tone for some gut-wrenching emotional carnage. A good reference point with SKYCAMEFALLING is POISON THE WELL. The metallic guitars come punching in with some real thick layers and the bass pummels your ears with a bubbly, yet brutal amount of satisfaction. After reading the lyrics, the music and mood of this disc seem to come together in perfect harmony. Picture these words set to some seriously good head banging music, “Reflecting on memories I have so yet to erase, Tears run for so long that I have gotten used to the taste.” Dang. The true highlight on here though is the track, “Healing Yesterday,” a five minute long cranium basher that has more timing changes and technical treats than one can imagine. As the song climaxes with some huge double bass moments (not unlike old METALLICA) thoughts of true absurdity race through your mind wondering just how much cooler this song can get. Just after the first listen of that tune, I found myself dancing around my apartment shouting into an imaginary crowd. Intense!!! Perhaps the best kept secret (that’s been around for 5 years) on Long Island.
