REMEMBERING NEVER “Suffocates My Words To You”

About a week before this came in the mail, I had read of this band signing to the killer Ferret Records label. I hadn’t heard of them before and went on a quick mp3 search, which ended in dissapoint. Fortunately, Onedaysavior read my mind and just happen to get a copy of their debut MCD my way. So now, in all due respect, and complete sincerity, I would like to proud declare the following: HOLY SHIT THIS RULES!!! I’ve listened to so much intricate metalcore lately, it’s beginning to sound like a giant blur, but in doing so, I’ve learned to differentiate between the “merely good,” and the “darn skippy incredible.” Well REMEMBERING NEVER appear to have set out to conquer the later. Strongly reminding me of FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES, GLASSJAW, and SKYCAMEFALLING, these guys have that whole “quietpart/blastbeat/insanemoshpart/oldschoolgo” thing down to a science, though it’s not so calculated that it comes off as pretentious in the vain of DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN. Anyway, songs range from nearly six minutes, to barely two, and that kind of whiplash variety keeps this disc interesting and wholly unpredicatable. I’m also digging much of the lyrics on “Suffocates My Words to You,” especially on the song, “Cold Should on a Hot Summers Day,” which bears an odd resemblance to the words of Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting For You.” These south Florida natives put together this ensemble of brutality and serene, stark imagery at the Studio 13, which is clearly becoming a premier venue for bands of this style (most of the Eulogy Records roster), and it sounds top notch. The double-bass is so wicked, I’m pretty sure the people in the apartment below hate me by now after stamping my feet into the floor with a possessed spirit. This is 25 minutes of pure enjoyment. Booya!
