NEW FOUND GLORY “S/T”

Mark my words, you will be seeing a whole lot more of this band in the future. On the airwaves, on magazine covers, in high-schools and junior high-schools. This is boy band punk rock, and i’d be dammed to say if I haven’t fallen victim of its catchiness. Okay, i’ll be frank (no…you’re jordan), ever since I first heard this band, I can’t stop listening to them. Simply described as infection pop punk with hardcore breakdowns, NEW FOUND GLORY string you along with every single hook. It’s impossible to not catch a melody floating around and smacking into ya. With this being their first official major release, I was somewhat fearing a sound change, but nope, the agression and anguish is still there — even if it is pretty sounding. Tracks like “Vegas,” and “Black and blue,” race with speed, possibly faster than anything the band has done previously. The big time major label sound is quirky, as I think whomever was in charge of the “guitar sound,” went off on a PAPA ROACH trip with the guitar crunches. It’s like all of a sudden, the treble and the bass, go way up, and then back to normal. Some strange stuff indeed…But other than that, this album is pretty killer. The band redid “Hit or Miss,” and “Eyesore,” for this release, which is good news, because those songs are great. After listening to my TRIAL records, and hearing about the atrocities in East Timor, sometimes, girl-oriented, pop-punk can be mighty refreshing. If you liked “Nothing Gold can Stay,” then you will no doubt dig this one too. I dare you not to be sucked in.
