MOBILE “Tomorrow Starts Today”

Apparently the guys in MOBILE are a big deal in Canada. They’ve won major awards (Grammy equivalents), sold a ton of records (nearing platinum), and been featured in award winning movies (Oscar equivalents), or so the press surrounding the US release of their album, Tomorrow Starts Today, would have you believe. With that said, the Canadians have some good taste as the band puts the pieces together on said album quite well. They’ve got catchy songs (the title track: whooaa!), dance-floor worthy tunes (“Out Of My Head,” “Dusting Down The Stars”), and occasional “reach-for-the-stars” atmospherics (“Scars”). At times they remind a lot of THE KILLERS or any similar counterpart but at others they’re more inline with bands like LOVEDRUG and THE MYRIAD. Despite the fact that Tomorrow Starts Today is hopeful and diverse, these traits hardly make up for the album’s blandness. MOBILE may break in the US, but something tells me listeners just won’t respond to something this forgettable.
