MIRACLE OF 86 “S/T”

After being recorded more than a year ago and being delayed and delayed, this precious piece of raw emo-rock is thankfully in my hands. Like any genre of music, hearing the same stuff over and over again (i.e. GET UP KIDS), can render it rather stale. Fortunately, THE MIRACLE OF 86 forge a beautifully urgent sound to mid paced emo rock that certainly shows off some hardcore influeneces from time to time. The wonder to this all is the brillant style of vocalist Kevin Devine. There is a magnificient edge to the way he carves words out of thin air. I saw this band this summer on Long Island, let me tell ya, Kevin’s recorded intensity is just as strong live. The guys behind this label are hyping this band to be the last great emo band before the musical trends shift again, and although it’s their job to say stuff like that, I might just as well believe in it. Track one, “A less important place,” which was first heard on the “Best Comp in the World,” also on Fadeway, has been set into a permenant spot on my eternal playlist. If you crave conviction and all out honesty in your music, this just might be the perfect anti-dote. Freaking awesome….
