MIND ERASER “Glacial Reign”

I honestly don’t think I’m ready for another MIND ERASER record. I’m still scrubbing the grime off from their last beast of a record, Cave. MIND ERASER are about as unapologeticly heavy and crust-laden as they come in hardcore. Glacial Reign delivers another handful of welts with each passing listening. It’s been hard to listen to this for long enough for me to jot down any other thoughts besides “Wow, these guys are seriously heavy”. “Heavy” only skims the surface of what MIND ERASER is composed of. Like much of the band’s previous material, Glacial Reign is a lot like wading through a swamp of sludgy guitars and a rhythm section that resembles an orchestra of jackhammers. From the plethora of blast beats to the absurdly distorted bass lines, it’s evident this band isn’t pretty nor do they have any regard for aural aesthetics. To me though, that’s part of MIND ERASER’S charm. There’s no doubt that this is a tough one to swallow. I’d venture to say that unless you’re already well versed in hardcore with this amount of crust then I’d proceed with caution. However, if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty (or completely soiled in grime) then by all means, give MIND ERASER a try. If nothing else, they will give you a reason to take a shower.
