MILLENCOLIN “No Cigar EP”

I like to think of this EP as “Pennybridge Pioneers lite,” given that it contains my favorite three tunes from MILLENCOLIN’s last (and most killer) full length. The EP also tosses in three tunes that were done in the original “Pennybridge…” recording session, as well as live versions of “Penguins & Polarbears,” and “No Cigar.” I was never a really a big fan of MILLENCOLIN before “Pennybridge Pioneers,” but that disc blew me away, and this EP reminds me how cool that disc was. The three previously unreleased songs, “Queen’s Gambit,” “Dinner Dog,” and “Kemp” are interesting – a bit darker than the previous stuff I’ve heard from them, but without the melodic and bouncy charm that these guys convey. Justifying the worth of this EP is kind of difficult if you already have the full length in dicussion and aren’t a die-hard fan, but you have to have everything this band releases, this isn’t exactly a burden to the collection. However, this disc does contain exclusive videos for the hit songs, “Fox,” and “Penguins and Polarbears,” which are pretty styling. On a side note, “Pennybridge…” went Gold in Austrailia recently, a pretty awesome feat for any punk band – if you don’t own that disc, pick it up pronto.
