HOT ROD CIRCUIT “Sorry About Tomorrow”

For a band that I’ve seen more than a few times live and have had sporatic attempts in listening to their back catalog, I always felt that HOT ROD CIRCUIT was a good band, but never a great band. “Sorry About Tomorrow,” their third full-length, and first for Vagrant is about to change that conception as this disc launches this pop-rock group into the upper echelon of bands in that category. With a definitive guitar sound and soaring melodies, HOT ROD CIRCUIT plant hook after hook into your brain. Of the eleven tunes, at least seven are undeniably catchy and instantly recognizable after the first listen. Brian Mcternan produced this release, and with nearly all of the bands that he works with, he is able to target on the standout quality of such band and truly bring it to life with their recorded output – “Sorry About Tomorrow,” is an exemplary product of such work. Songs like “The Pharmacist,” “Radiation Suit,” “Now or Never,” the ridiculously catchy, “Knees,” and “Let’s Go Home” are beautifully layered, almost to a point of gracefullness. Whereas HOT ROD’s last release, “If It’s Cool With You, It’s Cool With Me,” felt loose and airy, “Sorry About Tomorrow” is tightly wound and wonderfully smooth. Lyrically, this band is heartfelt and honest – what more could one ask for? HOT ROD CIRCUIT finally sounds sure of their sound and style and the result a killer pop-rock album. As an added bonus, the artwork is quite intricate and very professional looking. The amount of effort that must have went into putting this release together is obvious, and that’s always a beautifully appreciated quality.
