EYES OF AUTUMN “Hello”

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why this comparison makes so much sense, but everytime I play this excellent disc from EYES OF AUTUMN, I come to the conclusion of: this is Q AND NOT U without the dance beats. Yes, on the surface, I know that seems not only implausible, but not much of a comparison, but there’s something to the jerky, sensual sound that this band brings that keeps me visiting it often. Bumbling bass lines, flavorful percussion, and sparse vocals, give “Hello” the feel of a band more concerned with atmospherics over hooks. With the exception of there being no electronic touches on here, this disc also reminds me of the latest output from THE APPLESEED CAST. With every song clocking in around five minutes, this eight song disc is timed perfectly. The full production of the rhythm section, in combination with the soothing vocals, makes this a gentle, comforting, if even a bit dark release to listen to. Although clearly not the most intensive thing to come along my way lately, it is certainly inviting.
